Folding electric mirrors while inside car and driving?

Featured Replies

Can the electric mirrors be folded from inside the car?  Was in traffic the other day and had to fold them in to allow a lorry past, but was unable too. Looked for the button but no joy!

Any suggestions?

turn the nob, on the drivers door, to the folded setting :)

I wondered today whether the mirrors auto fold/unfold when turning engine off/on? Might cause a problem if they unfold before I exit my garage due to tight fit.

Mirrors fold / unfold on lock or unlock of the car.

If you disable the setting in the infotainment system, you can then manually operate them via the mirror control

As said above, mirrors will fold if you select the folding position on the control regardless of whether you have auto fold/unfold set for car locking.

Just bear in mind this folding function only works at low speeds, up to around 10/15mph which is usually fine as its normally something you only do at low speed/stalled anyway.

Do you actually lose much width by folding the mirrors on the Superb? I like mine from a nerdy perspective (and a quick check the car is locked!), but I've always thought that they seem to 'fold in' very little due to their design and therefore don't shave off much width.

I don't think they save much in overall width but like mine because (1) if you do fold them in when passing someone it is an indication that you know it's narrow and the other driver knows you know and (2) auto folding is like you say an indication it's locked.

I hope they fold in enough to fit through my garage door...

How wide is the garage door?

211cm

u don't lose "much" of the overall width when the mirrors are folded.

i'd say it reduces by approx. 50mm per side.....at best.

either way, u cutting it fine if ur garage door is only 211cm as the Superb is 203cm with mirrors out.  it will be about 191-195cm wide with the mirrors folded.

I'm used to putting the Mk1 Alhambra in (mirrors folded which come within 5mm of 1810mm max body width) but the superb body is about 55mm wider.

Remeasured the other garage opening (as opposed to door width) taking a little more care and come up with just under 214cm.

Got Park Assist, we'll see how well that copes :crying::blink::sadsmile:

Or saw and chisel will have to come out!!!!

I'd really appreciate if someone could check how far beyond the body width an electrically folded mirror sticks out. I did this with the Alhambra by measuring the respective distances to the garage wall. :blush
