Thats why ive gone manual I was told the DSG can struggle with the extra power.

It did make 360bhp but they backed it off with the is20 only good for 350bhp.

 

Things that need fitting 

 

Is38 turbo (from the latest mk7.5 golf r 310)

VW Racingline oil management system with catch tank 

Neuspeed front anti roll bars and rear anti roll bar

I have a 315 bhp petrol and I do over 30K miles per year, where most of them is motorway miles with weekend spirited driving.

London - Notts (my most common route) on M1 regularly see 42-44 mpg while driving 70

My overall average consumption is 38.

I had the car remapped at 30k miles and am now on 80k without any problems.

And people remap cars once they get used to stock speeds and don't want to replace the whole car. Restoring maps is always an option as well

 

It's not all that bad driving a remapped TSI, trust me. So unless you NEED 50+ mpg on motorway o don't really see the point of diesel, especially with the higher taxes this year.

Who did your map? Good to hear mpg is still above 40 and no problems in 50k. Tempted to do mine now I'm out of warranty.

Shark in Mansfield. The guys are really good and a great bunch as well. They've also turned off the soundaktor for free while I was there.

Not only that but they constantly think about reliability and don't want to chase big numbers at the expense of parts. So you will see APR and Revo tunes producing 5 and in some cases 10 hp more on just a tune, but I prefer Sharks way of working, as there are other ways to get those 5-10 hp without going crazy on boost :)

 

Ants stage 2 comment above is a good example, but if you dig through this forum you'll find many more.

Im not bothered about big numbers, just nice to unlock a bit of extra power hiding away, and I'd rather have something that will last. Have other mods to help support the power increase? Do you service it more frequently now mapped? Never owned a mapped car before. Thanks

+1 for Shark, even on the remote map at AW Tuning (Sidcup). Had a remote Stage 1 map done - which took an age due to the 'Black Friday Deal' rush, as well as Ben doing some 'tweaks' to the stock 230 map, which put it into Limp Mode twice over a few hours. But they stuck at it, and delivered an excellent map for me. Have also offered some onsite tweaks if I ever venture up North.

 

Still awaiting >40 mpg, but think that's down to a.) squirrelly West Sussex roads, and not much motorway driving, and b.) my right foot is difficult to switch into 'Eco' mode...

I had my Leon FR 184 mapped by a Revo agent and it made the car much better.  In-gear acceleration times were vastly improved, power just where you needed it. 

 

No issues with the car in almost 3 years of ownership and remapped for the majority of that.  I was willing to risk the TD1 flag as early dealer experience with SEAT was shocking so found myself using a local indy VAG specialist who also remapped the car.    No worries about it ever getting plugged into SEAT HQ/mainframe and getting flagged.  The pro's outweighed the cons IME. 

 

Completely changed the car, the standard 181/184/190 is the biggest let down of any engine I've driven in recent years.  Decent numbers on paper but flat as fart in the real world.

I try to service all cars every 10k miles even if the manual states otherwise. I do it for my own piece of mind. Spirited driving (car often or longer in higher rev range) means bigger and more frequent loads, and my opinion is, good and clean oil is essential. 99% of people drive it in the 30% of the available rev range, so doing that for 15 or even 20K miles on the same oil is fine I guess. But if you love the engine, and you use its full rev range, and want it to perform for longer periods, I believe 10K or there abouts would be more appropriate.

 

Other mod that give 10-15 hp on a remapped vrs is changing the turbo inlet and intake pipe with TurboTechnics large bore pipe, or with vwr inlet and pipe, or CTS inlet and CTS pipe. Changing filter and filter box itself has benefits only after 300+ hp, so factory box doesn't need to change until then.

Good to hear! I'm on 10k intervals anyway so not really any different to now. Very tempted now, thanks for your input B)

Can't say I've ever seen 400 miles out of a tank, but that's averaging about 36mpg which is quite possible on the motorway. I've certainly seen that kind of mpg through variable speed limits on the M25 and M42.  If you keep it down to an indicated 80mph max you might be in with a shout? 

 

However my 9 mile commute mostly along country lanes driving briskly but not in anyway nailing it returns <30mpg.

Shark did my Mk2 FL TSI vRS, with great results.

The difference is huge. With stock 2.0 TSI VRS the best mileage was 980km (around 600mi) per tank with soft foot. With APR stage 1 the difference is breathtaking. Millage is like for like, but about the same as stock. Torque...with APR stage, depending on fuel type and boost pressure, goes from 420Nm to 520Nm, power around 300HP. Performance? Here it is (recording with my VRS):

 

so an octavia TSI with an APR stage 1 smoked every single one of those v hot production cars?

@Magget So you have a Shark Stage 1 map? Shark Stage 1 figures are 285 bhp so those mods made a 30bhp increase therefore is it a custom remap?

 

I'm asking because I am considering a Shark Stage 1 and the TT inlet but not sure if the extra cost of the TT inlet is worth it.

I’ve owned many mapped diesel VRSs DSG and manuals. 

 

I can can tell you for certain that a petrol will **** all over the diesel. A standard TSI would slaughter a Modified TDI ;)

It's actually a turbo inlet, large bore intake pipe, and intake now. Apparently inlet and intake pipe that connects it to the intake are bottlenecks. Filter box almost makes no difference.

 

Go to vwr owners forum, they have loads of guides and comparisons between brands and options.

Looks like that. Well, it can't smoke Porshe Panamera Turbo, or  Alfa Romeo Giulia QV, can it? I'd rather say it can hold on pretty good, as for other cars within 300hp-400hp power range, yes.
