Smart light assist

Featured Replies

I got a Superb estate towards the end of last year. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. A bit of a whopper compared to the Yeti I used to drive, but the refinement and creature comforts more than make up for this. I'm also pleased to report that everything seems to be working okay, and without any rattles.

The one quirk I have come across is the smart light system. Usually it works fine. However, every so often when I start the car the lights just illuminate the area immediately in front of the car and are unresponsive when I try to activate the smart lights by pushing the light lever forward. In order to get the lights working properly I have to turn off the ignition and re-start the car - which so far has worked every time but is a pain. Does anyone know why this might be occurring?

One other question - when cornering with the smart lights on should the way the lights move round the corner be very obvious in their movement? It certainly seemed that way in the Skoda videos, however, if they are moving around the corner in my car I would say it was rather subtle.

What driving mode have you got selected?  Are the lights on Auto?

The cornering headlamps only work when you set "sport mode" in the driving mode. I set mine in the 'individual' setting so that I can have the swivelling lights but still have 'normal' drive settings. It's worth spending a few minutes to look at the section on how the smart/AFS lighting is set up. In my manual (2017) pages 70 and 240 are the areas to check out.

Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for the replies penguin17/ Sagalout. I've got individual driving mode selected - sport suspension/steering and everything else set to normal and the light switch is left on auto. I've just switched the Light option from normal to sport, so that should deal with the cornering. However, I still can't understand why the car periodically starts with the lights unresponsive.

Just seen this thread which seems to explain the problem:

Can you elaborate on 'unresponsive' ?  They just fail to do the self-alignment/little dance?

If so then that's pretty much what myself and a few others have had problems with too.  Though I've only had it happen twice and both times the temperature was just above 0ºC (I think it's temperature related)

He probably means the high beam don't come up when he switch on the auto high beam. A common issue with SLA - he probably have some light sources/reflectors in front of the car which confuse the stupid SLA system.

From what I recall when it has happened there was some initial movement, and then the lights stayed pointed down. It seems to be the same phenomenon as in the other thread. As suggested there, I've started turning the ignition on before the engine and up to now it hasn't recurred when I've done this.
