Cylinder 3 misfire

Featured Replies

Good evening gents.

I recently bought a used 2005 Skoda Fabia 1,4l , 65 slow donkeys power. Milage of 138.000km

Today i had a sudden loss of accelleration while doing around 90-100km/h, the check engine light went on. A few more seconds after the car did not respond to the pedal at all, so i rolled down the hill and managed to park at the gas station on the bottom.

I stopped the car, and turned it back on, check engine light is gone and car seems to be in order. I completed the final 30km without any problems.

At home i did an OBD2 scan, came up with "Cylinder 3 misfire".

Anyone have any idea to what may cause this error? And should i expect another stop along the road in the nearest future?

A little edit here, its a 1,2L

Coil pack, swap 2 and 3 round to confirm, misfire should move to cylinder 2, if yes, replace cylinder 2 coil pack.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.

I can't feel or hear anything on the car today, and the chek engine light went off as soon as i turned the ignition off and back on. Should i give it a swap before it happens again or wait until it does?

@havardr - It's virtually certain that your misfire is one of a bad coilpack, a bad spark plug, and bad LT cable to the coilpacks. Until it gets more persistent it's hard to say for sure which though.

Swap them now. Then when the light comes back on, scan it and see whether the fault is logged against cylinder 2 or 3. Cylinder 2 would be the better news.
