I have a VRS.  But like the look of the Karoq. Test driving tomorrow a   1.       And perhaps later a 1.5.

My son.  was pointing out in a motoring  mag the Seat is the preferred engine 1.4 marginally more expensive for Seat but cheaper to buy outright.... The Ateca has been out for a year and although not quite as comfortable. It's really the same car.

So bit confused as to what to do,     my local dealer  is both Seat and Skoda. On same premises. I only have to walk 10 yards between them

any thoughts

Ignore the badge and buy the car that's right for you. That's how most of us started buying Skodas

I'd never have considered a Skoda but had to change cars a couple of years ago to something more frugal from an XC90.   Glad I did as the Octavia estate I got has been great.  Amazing build quality and features.  However need to go back to an SUV and my Karoq now has a build week of 8 and can't wait.  This one is going to have to last us at least 10 years now and I have confidence it will.

I looked at the Ateca too but the depreciation was much quicker than a Skoda and the build quality didn't seem as high.   The Karoq is the one SUV where pretty much the only negative thing most reviewers have said is that it's a bit bland. All the others had some issue somewhere that actually mattered. I actually like that it's understated. Wolf in sheep's clothing :-)

Go to John Clark Skoda and get a 1.5TSI rather than John Clark SEAT for a 1.4TSI the engine being discontinued.

If that suits you.

Simple answer is to try both and decide which you prefer. There is really nothing between the 1.4 and 1.5 TSI engines. The Alteca looks prettier, but the Karoq is better equipped and the interior is higher quality. It's all down to personal taste

I ordered a Karoq 1.5TSI to complement my VRS. This missus needs her own car and quite liked it.

The 1.5 is claimed to be 10% more fuel efficient - probably mostly down to it's ability to switch off 2 cylinders when not needed. I've only done 100 miles in my Karoq, but the fuel consumption is already averaging over 40 mpg.

If you are intending to keep it 10 years why are you worrying about different initial depreciation rates between Seat and Skoda.  Both will only be worth about £2k in 10 years time.

The new 1.5 engine is more efficient, the 1.4 also had cylinder deactivation, but the new engine has variable geometry manifolds.  At some stage (probably soon) the Seat will switch to 1.5 as old design 1.4 is being discontinued.    It might turn out a 1.5 Seat with 4x4 is few months before Skoda with this combination.

Spec levels are different and price (after discounts) may be different.  But some items are packaged or only on next grade up.  No point in paying for things you won’t use.   A wise person told me to put the options in 3 lists : those you consider essential and would curse if missing, those that are nice to haves; and those you won’t use or won’t miss.    If it for 10 years make sure everything in list 1 is there, don’t add anything in list 3 (some may already be on the grade, but nothing you can do about it), ignore middle list 2 as you will get used to it over time.

One final thing, if you are financing it then ask your main bank first as some are doing car loans at about 3% to long standing customers.  Generally cheaper than rates manufacturers are currently offering (but they may offer deposit incentive).  Don’t rule out starting with manufacturer loan (VW finance) to get deposit discount, then pay it off after couple of months by using cheap rate loan from own bank (check small print for any early repayment penalties, unlikely but there be something if repay in full very early).  Might only look like interest is just a few percentage points different but if you are paying for it over 4 or 5 years could save £2000+ by switching to low rate.

I suggest you check that against measured fuel / miles at each fill up. Every one I know with a VAG trip computer says the MPG figures are optimistic. It is possible on other VAG models to have this corrected by VCDS or equivalent so your readout is accurate, so I'm assuming the Karoq is no different. On my current SEAT Leon, my trip computer was out by 6% until corrected (e.g. measured mpg was 50 but computer showed 53).

Fuel is not sold be gallons (4.546 litres) anyway, so you are as well seeing how many miles to the litre.

Any Euro 6 model not getting 10 miles to every litre (45 mpg) ish from a tank brimmed to brimmed in UK driving at NSL's is not doing very well.

But then a new car being 'Driven in / Run in'  with new tyres, tight brakes etc is not going to likely get the 'Averages' as it will after a few thousand miles,

or maybe after an Oil Change from the Factory Filled oil.

As to need to make the Cars Guessometer 'more accurate, it is usually near enough considering people will inflated tyres to different pressures, tyres will wear and owners might

even change tyres for something that suits the location like in Aberdeen / Aberdeenshire rather the poor ECO tyres Skoda fit as OEM.

(Crossovers / Softroader some with Part Time AWD, so the looks / some could have improved traction, and crap tyres fitted even UK winters.)

Thank you everyone for all the comments... I test drove a diesel Karoq Edition today.... It was really the 1 I wanted to test or the 1.5

I found it a little slow on take off      but I am comparing it to an Octavia VRS      Seats bit hard   very  nice dash and very nice auto handbreak

I liked the drive so hope to get to  test a petrol one as soon as they a have a demo?

thanks again

Yep, the 1.5 petrol is a really nice engine IMHO.
