Max Revs

Featured Replies

This is probably either my bad memory or I'm being stupid but I went away for a longer holiday and now when my Yeti is in idle it will only rev to 2500 max.

Has it always been like this? It does seem to need a little bit of extra "thinking time" to start up.

I keep seeing things that are just a suspicion that something has changed without being able to be definite, apart from losing all my saved radio stations.

Can't remember seeing the safelock notice every time I switch off either and I'm locking and unlocking it the same as I've always done.

The safelock thing, mine did it every time from day 1.

The rev thing, it’s a protection for the engine.

Have you recently had the engine emissions update thing?  Or any other service work?

The car is less than a year old so untouched since new.

It was cold when I was away so I'm wondering if it is a low battery/voltage thing that has changed the ECU.

It's set to do this, I asked a while ago. It will only rev to 2500 to protect the engine and turbo, apparently. Turning off the TCS does something to it but you would have to search for the thread. I think it is in the, "I didn't know my Yeti did this" section somewhere.

The discussion on that thread is here.

Note to the OP: if you're revving the engine at 2,500rpm it's not "in idle".  I think you meant "in neutral".  "Idle" is when the car is in neutral and your foot is off the loud pedal.

Thanks. I'm amazed I can't remember it doing this before.

I did phone up the Skoda garage's service department but they had no idea.

I noticed this when I 1st got my yeti. This was with the door open. When I sat in the car and closed the door it would rev all the way up.

Interesting.

I wonder if something like that changed in my car. After all, all my radio stations were gone and I'm suspicious of other things.

It drives normally, though.

Mine does this too, always has.

The revs then rise a little as the clutch goes out.

Think of it as Tesco Value Launch Control. It works very well in that regard.

Must just be my bad memory.

Safelock message has always come up on mine.

Gotta ask, why would you want to rev the engine above 2500 rpm when in neutral?

I don't, but that's not the point.

I couldn't remember it happening before and wondered if the ECU had been changed somehow.

My last Yeti done this. Rev limiter @ 2500rpm. I think MOT testers have to rev to 2500rpm for emissions test

That should make sure it passes!

I had to put my Yeti through an MSA noise test, which is taken at 3/4 of max revs, so over 2500, and we couldn't find a way of doing it.
It was so far below the limit at 2500 they decided I was OK.

I believe turning ESP/TCS off will do the trick.
