Auto box question

Featured Replies

Hi all, have a bit of a problem on my Octavia Auto gearbox, I have only had the car for a month but on 2 occasions when driving off cold the gearbox has been fine up to 5th gear and then It wont drop into 6th until over 70mph, god knows what speed I will need to do before it will go into 7th. Gearbox is fine when used in manual mode, I have found that if I stop and restart the engine the auto box goes back to working as it should. is this a fault or is there a reason for the gearbox to behave this way. Car is under warranty but I don't want to bother them if its not actually a fault. Any assistance would be appreciated

youd need to connect the car to a diagnostic laptop to find out if theres any codes! :)

Thanks for the reply I will do that.

This will be a DQ200 DSG,

so for some built from 2013-2015 there is a Service Campaign.

Check with Skoda if outstanding, at a Dealership or Skoda UK CS.

'34H5' a Software Update.    *If already done there should be a sticker in the Spare Tyre Well beside the VIN Sticker showing when.*

This is difference from '34 F7' which was the Synthetic Oil changed to Mineral & a Software update. (World Wide Recall, just Europe not part of the world, VW Group home market, they tell Governments what is what not the other way round.)

It should show here when still required on cars 2009-2013.

Does it make any difference which mode you're in?

?

Is it a 1.6 TDI CR with a 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG?

Has it had The Fix carried out on it?

Thanks for the info this link http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us   does not exist anymore  when I checked my vin number for any recalls etc there were non for this car.

Should I contact my warranty about this problem or go to  garage first for advice. Like I said the gearbox works fine as soon as the car is restarted and it has only doe it twice. I was wondering if by something I have done without knowing is putting the car into sports mode, but no faults showing in vehicle status and no fault lights lit on dash.

Yes its the 1.6 TDI I am assuming that if it had to have a fix it must of been done as I have checked my vin number and there are no recalls for mycar

There are people that have cars that have had The Fix that then complained about the DSG,

there should be no issues with the DSG, but then 'The Fix' should not cause issues, but people still are having them.

That VIN Checker does not show ' 34H5'  when outstanding,  only '34F7',   just the usual hopelessness with Skoda Recalls / Service Campaigns,

This is why you need to ask Skoda.  Or a Main Dealership.

http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

See if the Service Campaign is required, and then complain about the DSG if it is behaving badly. ie not as should be.

PS

You should expect the DSG to behave differently in 'D' from in 'S',

that is the point of 'S',  holding onto the gears longer.  Read the Owners Manual.

Have checked with Skoda and the fix has been done

But from your OP was the shifter in 'D' or 'S' when it was not shifting up?

  • Author

oops its me being stupid, I have just discovered that moving the selector slightly  up or down changes the mode, I thought the D/S symbol was to denote whether the gears were in manual or auto I have just notices on the dash it says S or D. so obviously I have had the lever in sport mode when I thought I had a problem. I feel so stupid, Sorry to you all but thanks to your help I fathomed it out. I must say I am relieved to find out that the only problem is ME.

I wont live this down for a while.      Thanks again to all that responded

You are so right, I can blame it on being a pensioner.

There are another couple of threads with exactly the same thing (Slightly knocking the shifter & putting into S mode) so you are definately not the first to have this issue.

^^^ odd you keep sounding proud of that poor economy.

A tuning box does not automatically mean someone is going to drive like a ****.

Even people that drive like they stole it might drive sensibly to not draw attention to themselves.

C'mon now, it's not all about fuel economy, otherwise why would one buy a car designed to be quicker off the mark?

When driven like a grandma would, the vRS 245 would be almost as fuel efficient as most of the TDIs. That says something about how petrol engines have improved of late. But who wants to drive a 245 like that all the time?
