VRS Spoiler/Boot Paint Cracking

Featured Replies

Hi I have just had some paint crack on my hatch next to spoiler and when looked closer the screws for holding spoiler are rusting and there is rust under the paint around screws .

I am trying to get someone to look at it.

This is what happened to mine.

Mine was eventually all sorted but what a hassle I had with the work, I had to get Skoda Customer Relations involved in the complaint. I haven’t named and shamed yet but I would just say avoid a particular Glasgow branch to get this work carried out.

I'm Warrington so hopefully there not going to put up a fight .

Glad u got sorted

Seems like a common fault looking on net.

The same problem the same spot on my VRS 2013. I bought new i am the first owner. so there were no any damages on boot and I never close the boot by pressing the spoiler. I was disappointed that repair was refused by dealer. It appeared right some months after warranty!! After 1 year the spot gets only bigger and now there are rust already after winter snow and salt from the roads.

Did you negotiate with global site to convince that this is factory problem?   It was said by dealer that it is factory fault, but my case is out of warranty!!

Hi

No I didn't in the end as I sold it to skoda Warrington for a 2016 230bhp so not needed in end.

But they did say it was a issue and was sorted on my newer car .

Hope u get sorted

I glad some people are getting a successful outcome. I've just spoken to Skoda customer services who have refused to even entertain any kind of paintwork defect outside of warranty.

Here's the response I got from SKODA

"As conveyed by your Case Manager, ŠKODA are not paying for paint issues outside of their warranties. Seeing as your vehicle is also out of Warranty, ŠKODA would not cover the cost of repairs but, you are welcome to visit your local Retailer who may offer you a goodwill gesture toward the repair. However, this would be at their discretion."

I purchased my VRS when it was two years old, from a dealership at the other end of the country. I've had it serviced at an independent garage, which means that a dealer has no reason to offer any goodwill.

So it looks like I'm stuck paying to have mine repaired myself.

Hi. I have got a 2015 VRS. Rusty bolts on underside. Took car in for inspection yep from factory as no repair.

Warranty claim rejected as the car had missed a "body inspection" prior to me buying it but it was approved used with "full service history".

Thoughts?

@CHUTTERS

Where in the Skoda Warranty is there any mention of 'Body Inspections' being required, annually, bi-annually or any time covered by the warranty?

Did they show you an example of the wording requiring 'Body Inspections', and do you have a copy of the one done in 2016,2017,2018 if one was missed in 2019?

Skoda have the record of which Dealership that had an employee that never carried out the Body Inspection that shows as part of Skoda Main Dealership servicing.

As it is the Paint Warranty is just for 3 years.  But then the issue you have is a known issue, and known by Skoda CZ and Skoda UK.

Had a couple of similar cases at my work, ask them to check the inside of the boot (the area where the spoiler is attached), these cases of mine has had the corrosion quite bad on the inside of the boot, in these ive got Skoda to replace the complete boot also.

This could literally be a photo of mine. Now a 7 year old car Skoda have refused to fix it under the body warranty, according to skoda there are only 2 types of rust/paint defect covered and this fault isn't one of them.

I have found a body shop who say they think there is a 75% chance they can do a semi respray with whole panel lacquer cover using the contours to hide masking for 180 quid. Not really willing to pay 300-600 offered at alternative businesses. As long as its sealed and I don't get worms all is good. Thanks all for the advice on the washers, I will let them know so it doesn't happen again in a few years!

When he was inspecting the damage he gave the spoiler a little wobble and thinks the cause is down force fluctuations with the tiny bits of road grit under the spoiler slowly waring the paint away and letting water in. He said he was going to put a plastic sticker under there to ward the issue off.

Cheers CR
