What is this hanging down? Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Not my car but I have the same thing hanging down plus another big piece of metal.

Should it be hanging down and does anyone know what the pipe is?

Also what could the piece of metal to the right of it be?

I'd get some pics but it's to dark.

Thanks. Ryan Screenshot_20180204-200401.thumb.png.31ca08507e87ce050f23fffd156e4f81.png

Handbrake cable?

Normal just the handbrake cable. The bit of metal? probably the exhaust clamp

Could also be the fuel cooler thats underneath as well

Handbrake cable. Fuel cooler is further up the car near where the driver sits.

I'll take a photo of my car in the morn but immediately to the right of the handbrake cable they're is a square piece of metal hanging down.

Is the low handbrake cable anything to worry about?

I think it's pretty common on the Fabia my last two have been the same.

Got under the car on lunch and there is 4 bolts that look to hold it in place and the hand brake cable goes into it can I just tighten the bolts and see if it raises it back up?

Isn't that the plastic underfloor tray?

Yeah, it's the plastic tray. Same on mine...

Yes, some don't have them.

So maybe just have a go at bolting it back on? Other than that it does nothing?

They protect the floor against stones and stuff. Never taken mine off but maybe there is less underseal than on cars that don't have them fitted. Not sure though.

I took them off my wife's old 2002 Polo a couple of times to clean the muck that gets trapped under there, I think that it is a good idea to drop each every now and again to clean that stuff out.  Hanging down, if they are, usually means that  corrosion has got a hold of these retaining washers and they need replacing.

Luckily with much newer cars VW Group has moved on to using plastic versions of these retaining washers.
