Servicing and Oil Top ups

Featured Replies

Hi folks

can anyone advise regarding changing servicing periods on the Skoda Superb 280 4x4.

According to the dealer my car is on variable/long life every 2yrs.

I don’t do big miles. Maybe 6000 per year if I’m lucky.

Routinely I’ve always had my cars serviced on a ‘fixed’ plan. So every year or 10000miles essentially.

I like the thought of the fresh oil and filter annually. I guess it’s OCD.

Skoda dealer said it can be amended on their dealer database when it goes for its first service in 5 months.

So does anyone else opt for the annual service?

It’s also a digital service record which is a first for me as I’ve been used to having a little paper service book with the stamps in it.

I guess proof of service is simply keeping hold of the service invoice.

Also so what’s the preferred top up oil?

My previous car had the same engine and was suitable for anything VW504/507, but can this be used to top up long life stuff?

Cheers

Have it serviced and oil changes done when you want, you pays your money and makes the choice, it is not for others like Dealership employees to decide.

VW504 00 is Long Life stuff, so top up with 5w 30 FS LL,  that is what is in at the factory, and used at Main Dealer Services.

If you go to Fixed Services change to VW502 00 (5w 40 FS)  if you want or stick with VW504 00.

Dealerships will likely say not to use 5w 40 FS to VW502 00.

With your low mileage and I presume short journeys then I would personally go for 12 months between servicing.

300ml coolant were added on first service 6.000km

first Engine Oil change on 6.000km and all next after 10.000km (one litter added after each 8.000)

DSG Oil on 40.000km

^^^ What is that about?

The DSG Oil change is required at 40,000 miles by the Service Schedule / Guidelines.

Thanks for the replies.

I think because of my low annual miles and short stop/start journeys I’ll definately stick to annual servicing. :)

My 280 will be on annual servicing when I take it in next month, it's on variable from the factory at the moment.

I do about 8K a year approx and 1.5K of that is normally our summer holiday.

I go further with the OCD, I like 6 month oil changes with a filter, had the 280 done at 4k miles just before my summer holiday last year to France knowing full well

that I'd be giving it the beans and higher toll road speeds.

I find its minimal cost for piece of mind.  Oil comes out cleanish rather than black.;)

if car is your then oil must be changed at least 1/3 earlier than producer recommends

Spot on.  I shall be doing my DSG and haldex at 30K miles, maybe even earlier.  This car is a keeper and I want to look after it.
