Vgate VS-450 with Octavia Mk1?

Featured Replies

Hi there, new to this forum as I have recently bought my first Skoda = '01 Octavia estate Elegance 2.0 4x4. Bought from original owner outside of Lycksele (the "capitol" of Swedish Lapland). Car looks and runs quite nice due to the 257000km on the odo...add to that the "Golden" color (Atacama beige) and licensplate SOL (="sun" in Swedish), how could I have resisted getting it??

But even the sun has it's spots... As I drove it the 175km home last weekend the red "open door"-symbol kept coming on and off and on and off....
So I soaked the doorlocks with eletrical cleaner/contact-spray and all seemed ok again! So far so good...but today it suddenly became worse!
Now it will only react when I open/close the drivers door and/or bootlid...I won't bother if I open/close any of the other doors...and if I try to lock it the alarm goes off! Interior lights won't shut off either...
I've hooked it up to my Vgate VS-450 but I can't get any connection to the central locking unit!?
anyone know why??
I've read/deleted old codes for engine etc...

And is there a way to disable the alarm, at least for as long as I have not fixed the problem...??

Thank you!

Anyone else with a Octy Mk1 and Vgate 450 that can check to see if it can connect to the Central Locking-unit??

@keihin - The problem is usually with the driver's door microswitch, or a broken wire in the bellows between A-post and door.

Meantime, you should be able to disable the alarm by locking the car manually rather than with the remote.

Ok thank you.

Today its a little bit better because it is also reacting when i open/close rear right door...

I’ve tried locking it manually (key in door) and it’s ok but when I unlock it manually the alarm goes off... Maybe lock manually and unlock with remote is how it should be done??

@keihin - The point as to "most likely failures" is all I can really do from here (literally another country).

Otherwise, I've never heard of a Vgate diagnostics system; perhaps you should download a shareware VCDS from Ross-tech.

@keihin "the legendary VAG 405" can be read as "told of in myths and legends", which in turn can be interpreted as meaning that it had claimed capabilities that didn't exist.

Looking at your link, they signally don't mention any VS450 capability to read convenience or body electric modules, which are the ones you need to access and VCDS can do (and you've got an OBD II cable already; all you have to lose is some data (presuming you have a laptop to load the software to).
