Yeti 4x4 2.0 high tick over low mpg

Featured Replies

Hi, just bought a 2012 2.0 4x4 yeti 3 months ago. When we took it for a test drive the PDF light was on and the dealer said they would sort it before collection. When we collected the car, the dog was cleared, but I have since noticed that it always idles at 1000 rpm which seems high to me and the fuel cobpnsumption isn't as good as I'd hoped for. We seem to be getting around 35 mpg. The car is used daily on a 20 mile round trip to work and back and bearing in mind we live in the hills (hence the 4x4), some of the journey navigates a steep hill, down on the way to work and up on the way back for about 1.5 miles. The remainder of the journey is normal flattish A road. My question is, is the tick over too high and would it account in part for the mpg or is all that normal. The other thought I had is could it be continuously in DPF  regen mode? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Alan

Do you get the hot burning smell of a dpf regeneration and hear the fans running when you stop?

It does sound like its trying to regen all the time and would explain a lower mpg but its not uncommon in cold weather for the engine to idle at 1000rpm until it reaches operating temperature

I can't say I notice a burning smell or the fan running, but I'll pay particular attention next time we're out in it. I'm used to working on old petrol classics, but modern diesels aren't something I've ever really looked into before. Is it possible to lower the tick over or is that something that should be left to a specialist garage ? Thanks for the quick reply too. Thanks Alan
