These blank keys on e-bay

Featured Replies

Has anybody on here bought one of the blank flip keys that you see on e-bay all the time?

Reason I ask is that I got my '03 Octy vRS about a month ago and it only came with one flip key. I was going to ask a Skoda dealer for a price on a non-flip remote key, like my misses has on her Fabia, but I still think if I buy one of these flip keys off e-bay it would be cheaper.

Has anybody been to a dealer with a blank key already and asked them to cut and code it? How much do they tend to charge? and are they alright about doing it to a key that you are giving them?

I don't think a dealer will cut a "non-OEM" key.

Technically, there's no reason why it wouldn't work, provided of course the code in the key is compatible with the car

The think is these keys are OEM keys, or at least look to be OEM keys, they have the parts tag and everything.

I just bought one, but yet to receive it. Apparently they're oem ones, and should be good. :) Got mine for £25 all in so if it works, its a true bargain. :)

let me know how much cutting and imboliser is... as i will follow this route for my golf, need a spare key.

Once key is cut, immobiliser is done for free using the original key and some gubbins/workings. I'm waiting for my key to arrive first, then I'll look into this. :)

Wish I'd spotted these. My used Octy vRS only came with one battered flip key as well. Called my stealer who told me that theye didn't do non-flip keys (surprised - the ex girlf's polo came with a nifty little plastic spare...). Quoted and paid cost of a new flip of about

Thing to consider - Does the key contain the correct type of transponder for your immobiliser? Look for a W on the key for variable transponder type.

There are companies that will supply and cut a blade for a flip out key from a photo if you do not have a key number and the blades are easy to fit to this type of key.

The

I will shortly be selling instructions on how to get into the car when the remote stops working, if anyone is going to be silly enough to buy them.

hehe

My dad used the guy who can cut you one for £12 from an emailed digital image. Works fine, seems like a good quality blank.

That is the other thing I am not sure on, are the flip keys 433 hz or 434 hz. The ones on e-bay are 434 hz, which I'm not sure are correct for UK models.

Anybody know?

Mine says it is 434 MHz.... (Octavia VRS Mk 1)

Where does it say that? I've look all over my key (also MK1 VRS) and can't see it anywhere.

You need to take it apart - it's on the outside of the fob part when you've separated it from the key part (in teeny tiny writing) - says it's made by Hella, btw.

To save me the hassle of opening up my key and also the fact I don't have the key to hand, what age is your vRS.

Mines a 2003 '03, so possible that there was a change, but unlikely.

Thanks for your help.

The remote control part of the key has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with the immobiliser. It is the transponder within the key head that is read passively by the immobiliser. Between the early (glass headlamp) and facelifted (plastic headlamp) Octavias the immobilisers and thus the the transponders are different, also the remote controls though looking identical are also different - this is from someone who has spent 45 minutes trying to get an early remote to work on a different car - they don't.

Seem to be the real deal - I got my

Looks like a pukka key. Not quite the same as a vRS one - it's missing the boot release button.

Threads merged.

Does anyone know if I were to purchase the three button fob from ebay - would I then gain the remote boot release function also?

I have bought one of these keys and have now programmed it to operate the remote. Now it's time to get it to start the car though! Is is really a dealer job or is it another one of these charge

Can get it cut at any decent key cutting place, but you really need vag com I believe to program it into your car as an ignition key. There's a function within it which you input the four digit code to access the ECU then tell it you want to program 2 keys, then each one is turned in the ignition for 3 or 4 seconds, which codes it (by the car)

There is information on Ross-Tech's website here on immobiliser key matching. I have the old 4-digit SKC for my 2002 Octavia so would be able to do key-matching with VAG-COM. Owners with Immobilizer III cars (which Ross-Tech notes are post 11 Mar 2002 VWs and Audis - and maybe Skodas too?) will need to get a 7-digit PIN from their dealer unless they have a 4-digit SKC like me.
