Hi all,

 

I went to replace my passenger side wing mirror indicator today, but the new part didn't work. 

 

I have an elegance model which has the puddle light as standard.  I am not bothered about the puddle light (in fact the drivers side doesn't work anyway), so I just bought the standard (non-puddle) version here:

I checked on the forum here before buying this part and was told that the new part will work on my elegance.

 

The connector fitted fine, but I did notice that the male connector from the car had 3 x wires (black, red and white).  However the female connector on the new indicator only had 2 pins (which would connect the black and white wire by the looks of it).

 

Is this significant?  Was I given incorrect information that this part should work?  I remember when researching which part to get I saw some mentions that some Octavias need an adapter.

 

Any help appreciated!

 

 

It is a bit fiddly but I would put a voltmeter across the three different possible pairs of pins and see which pair has a voltage with the signal on. Just be careful not to short it out.

 

You may be able to swap the terminals around in the female connector if its not the black and white pair. My guess is red should be involved or it could be an electrical fault further up (in which case no pair will give you the voltage).

I have gone ahead any purchased an official Skoda replacement with the puddle light so I will see if this works.

 

I own a multimeter, but I am new to using one.  So far I have only used it to measure a battery.  Can I just check the process of testing with a multimeter?

 

Is it as simple as touching one of the probes on one of the pins, and the other probe on the other pin and looking for a reading (with the signal on)? (while ensuring that I dont touch them together as this will cause a short).

Yes essentially. Make sure it is switched to voltage measurement around the 10-20v mark.

Just wanted to confirm that the official replacement with the puddle light worked.  So moral of the story, if your car has puddle lights, replace with a unit with a puddle light.

Hi both of mine have gone where did you get the ones with puddle lights from I can not find them anywhere. I have and 08 mk2 elegance.

Got them from eBay (think it was a main dealer up north selling them).

 

I think you might have to get them from your local main dealer.
