1.4 TDI, Near side Engine Mount replacement

Featured Replies

I have to change the nearside Engine Mount which is under the battery on a 2007, 1.4 TDI, are there any snags to look out for, what's the procedure.

Thanks in anticipation.

Remove battery and tray, airbox as well,

Put jack under gearbox and support weight by jacking small amount

Loosen both bolts on top of mount (they point downwards) and remove completely making sure engine does drop too much and weight is taken by jack.

You then need to lower the jack small amounts at a time ensuring you don't snap any wires leading into starter/gearbox, helpful to have second person to watch.

Once its lowered enough you can access the 2 bolts running horizontally holding engine mount in place. Finally remove 3rd bolt which goes into the chassis leg on top and remove the mount.

Fit new mount torquing bolts to 50nm +90 degrees

jack engine back up to meet new mount, insert bolts and tighten to 40nm + 90degrees. These 2 bolts should be replaced.

Refit everything else and job done

The current noise I am getting sounds as though it's a nearside metallic suspension knocking, only on bumps, I have checked the suspension bushes front & back, drop links and all are OK, I have therefore come to the conclusion it must be the nearside engine mount.

I was proposing to buy a Lemforder https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Genuine-LEMFORDER-Engine-Mounting-29978-01-Top-German-Quality/401480229967?epid=1134618476&hash=item5d7a16244f:g:xlkAAOSw4EhaY4xu - Are these K.
