Traffic jam assist and rear traffic alert

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I went into the dealership on Saturday and placed an order for the Edition 7 seater.  I had specced the Assistance Pack 1 which was £350 list price and per the brochure includes: lane assist, blind spot detection, traffic jam assist, rear traffic alert, emergency assist and adaptive crusie control (ACC) (yes that spelling is from the brochure).  The dealer took the assistance pack 1 off the order and added ACC for £305 instead.  He said that the Edition already has lane assist and blind spot detection and that all Kodiaqs have the emergency assist and that the traffic jam assist and rear traffic alert come with ACC so that I didn't need the pack, just ACC.  He mentioned that this was a quirk of the pricing for the Kodiaq and that I would save £45 doing it that way.

Does that ring true for anyone?  Can anyone confirm that by adding ACC you get the traffic jam assist and the rear traffic alert?

Cheers,

Raymond

You don't get Traffic Jam Assist however I think you get rear traffic alert if you already have blind spot monitoring. @andyvee

Yes, the Edition does have Lane Assist and Blind Spot Detection. However, the £45 does get you the Traffic Jam Assist as well as ACC.

It's not a quirk of anything - if you want to add the Assistance Package to the SEL, then it makes you also add on LA + BSD + RTA, so you end up adding on the best part of £1k to the cost instead of £350.

So it all depends what you actually want out of all that - but personally I would (and did) order the Assistance Pack on the Edition because it seems pointless not to if you want ACC. Another £45 will equate to only about £1/month over 4 years, and it gets you a fully functioning stop with traffic / start with traffic ACC system.

Edit: the £45 gets you the TJA, the rest of the £350 gets you the ACC :-)

Thanks WS.

The price is not an issue and I would like TJA, however the dealer insisted that it did come with it already with ACC and that I was wasting the £45 hence they changed the option setup.

I guess I need someone who has an edition with ACC added as an option, but not the Assistance Pack 1, to confirm whether TJA is present or not and therefore whether the dealer was correct or not.  I may have to call the dealer and get the options changed pronto if it turns out they were wrong.

Kind regards,

Raymond

Your dealer is wrong. I would seriously consider finding another one if they continue to sprout crap like this. TJA builds on LA and ACC - it is more than the sum of those two systems, and it only comes with the Assistance Pack.

Thanks WS,

I have queried the Sales Manager at the dealership.

Kind regards,

Raymond

I hope you're not making a scandalous accusation that Škoda sales staff are incompetent reprobates that don't know what they are talking about?

The very people I entrusted when enquiring if I should add Maxidot (the description in the brochure was scant to say the least) to be informed that I would be paying extra to find out my oil temperature and things of that nature.

It was the same when I asked about upgrading to bi/xenon, to be told, save  your money and just buy upgraded bulbs.

It was only a few months after my purchase that I discovered Briskoda, and realised I made a grave mistake in not ordering both.

I could kick myself for listening to them.

I did some further research and found this on another forum with a very long discussion on the topic which I post here in case anyone else has the same query:

"As a heads up, since BW45 TJA is no longer standard on vehicles specced with DSG + LA + ACC.

MY18.5 introduced 'Assistance Package 1' as an option, and TJA is included as part of that. Option code is PWH and you pay £350 for the ACC+TJA on an Edition spec, as opposed to £300 for ACC only, option code PL1."

I have contacted the dealer to change the options.

Thanks again WS.

So, if you have TJA, and you are in a traffic jam with ACC active, the car will start moving again, regardless of how long you were stationary? Without TJA the ACC will bring you to a stop, but you have to touch the accelerator or ACC resume to start going again? Is that how it works?

No, all the TJA does is keep the Lane Assist active.

You still need to touch the accelerator or ACC to start the car moving if it has been stationary for > 5 seconds.
