Hi all,

 

I drive a skoda Octavia 2015 2.0L diesel DSG 72k miles at the moment, fully serviced with Skoda exactly as required at the correct mileage.

 

I started having a clunk noise from DSG when creeping up in traffic.

 

it sounds like a clunk only at about 9mph and only when I’m releasing the accelerator and then touching it again.

 

There are no clunks or other noises when driving off or slowing down, or at any different speed, but just at 9mph when releasing the accelerator and then touching it again.

 

Skoda engineers admitted that this sound is abnormal and suspected it was the driveshaft, so I’ve changed it for £570 and the problem is still there, the exact same clunk.

 

If any of you had and resolved this issue, I would love to have your help on this as I am desperate, given that skoda engineers can’t figure out what it’s causing this noise.

Just a guess, but I would look at the engine mount...

i forgot to mention that the engine mounts were checked by the skoda and they are fine.

 

I specifically ask for those to be checked and the suspension too as I was reading on the forum here that similar problems were caused by engine mounts, but this is not the case.

 

Skoda suspected it was the passenger side driveshaft which has been changed now and the problem is still there.

I’d be asking for my £570 back! Their diagnosis, your money spent, problem not solved. 

 

Good luck getting to the bottom of the problem.

Typo

Has it had new brake pads / does it need new ones? I maybe off the mark but sure there was something about this in the past, I think it may have been more to do with reversing though (and I might have got this mixed up with a previous car)

Probably not with 72k 

 

AFAIK it was 3 years or 60k, which ever is sooner.

That’s correct. The car is out of warranty after 60k miles.

Break pads are all in good order, front ones were changed recently, but the clunk was there before and after and doesn’t seem to have anything to do with breaks.

 

There is no clunk when reversing, or when going normally through gears when accelerating from 0 to 60.

 

The clunk only comes in at around 8 or 9 mph when I depart in slow moving traffic, then release the accelerator, then touching it again to carry on with the slow moving traffic.

 

I would not even figured out that there was a problem, but being a taxi driver I spend a lot of time in traffic and hence I noted this issue which happens only in those very specific circumstances.

 

The engineers also checked the engine mounts, the bushes, the shock absorbers, the exhaust pipe, the protective scout underneath, breaking system, but neither of those seem to be a problem.

 

I found on google that WV owners had an issue that seems similar to mine and they’ve put it down to the “clutch switch”?

 

 

So is that when the DSG is dithering between 1st & 2nd.?

What if you put it into 'S' does the clunk happen at 9mph.?

 

Full Main Dealer Service. 

So was the DSG Oil Change done at 40,000 miles?  Has anybody suggested the 2nd DSG Service now, or has the Oil change been done for a 2nd time?

 

The Skoda Main Dealer charge is £179.  it is an extra charge, not part of 'Servicing or Service plans'.

@ 40,000 miles with Skoda.

(Audi are showing as required at 38,000 miles on the Audi UK Servicing website.  Same DSG's. Just they call it S-tronic.)

Where are these Skoda Engineers coming from to check out your car, does Skoda UK / CZ send them to the dealership, 

or is it Skoda Main Dealer Technicians / Master Technicians that are diagnosing?

I should have said skoda main dealer technicians, rather than engineers.

 

I always take my car to the main dealer at Azur Skoda in Chichester.

Does the Service History show the DSG Oil change at 40,000 miles, and is there an invoice for that having been done?

& when are you having it next done, or has it been already?

ask them to perform a dsg adaptation/reset and see if the clunking goes away

Hi, yes.

 

The DSG oil change happened at 40k miles and it’s noted in the digital service history of the car.

 

The next one will be at 80k and the technicians insisted that this is done only when required, not earlier, not later.

If you pull off with the gear shifter in 'S' and drive away easy or crawl in traffic, lifting on and off the accelerator is the clunk still at 8-9 mph,

or does it happen at a higher speed as the DSG shifts, 1st to 2nd?

 

 

Odd that Audi are giving a different Service Schedule / Guideline from Skoda.

   (back to this strange km to miles that VW Group pick and choose... Seems easy for everyone else to convert kilometers to miles)

 

All good stuff from the Skoda Main Dealer techs,  but the usual trying this and that and replace parts is OK when a Warranty is paying 

but gets expensive when the Customers are paying.

 

Maybe they need an Engineer in with the gear and more than expensive ideas.

I have a 50,000 mile 2.0 DSG with the same noise

when coasting if you then accelerate there is a clunk

As if there is slack in the drive train being taken up

Had dsg oil changed

And clutches adjusted - whatever that means

Welcome.   

 

What did that cost you to have done and did it stop the clunk?    It would be good to know how the Clutches were adjusted or did they do a reset.

 

Around £250 - the oil is very expensive

The mechanic is an independent and seems very knowledgable

Clunks usually get clunkier and then break

There is a VCDS or Official Diagnostic procedure to reset the DSG & Clutch Adaption - you should be able to find it on the Ross-Tech Forums, with the oil up to operating temp, Engine running, handbrake on and foot brake on, I haven't run it on mine but have a hard copy of the procedure.

When they say the Engine Mounts have been checked - does that include the Dogbone mount?

 

As mentioned - it would be worth holding it in gear using manual mode at that speed and trying to replicate to see if it is an issue with a gear change or drive-line shunt.

I have originally started this topic and want to say that I have NOT got to the bottom of the problem and the car now has 109.000 miles.

 

The clunk is much more pronounced now and one other noise appeared when drive or S it’s engaged and I’m moving slowly. The new noise sounds like a scrape in a bearing or clutch if that makes sense?

 

SKODA advised me to see a DSG specialist to take my gearbox apart and to “revamp it” whatever that means.

 

Apparently SKODA is unable to open up a gearbox and fix it so they will send me to some external DSG specialist and as you can imagine it costs a fortune.

 

So i’ve given up trying to fix it as the car has done plenty mileage and if I’d try to resell it now, in this condition, probably I would get no more than £7-£8k on it.

 

Not much life or value left in it to justify a £2000 repair.

 

So i’ll drive it until it explodes and then silverlake it is for this car.

Do you have all this nonsense from Skoda UK Customer Services in writing and who were you dealing with a Communications Manager, Resolution Manager or some nutter they hired for the day?
