Key fob has stopped working, is it covered?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Key fob stopped working today, its just under 2 years old. At first I thought it was the battery though I thought it would be strange as my old car gave me a warning when the battery was low. Swapped the battery around with the one in my spare key and it still wasn't working but my spare works with the same battery.

Does anyone know if I can claim this on the warranty?

Cheers

Won’t be covered under warranty (never known one to be) as it’s classed  as a ware and tear item.

You coukd try try getting it decided to see if it’s just lost its coding shouldn’t be no more than 30mins labour. Failing that it would need a new key. Once the new key arrives it will need recoding at the same time as your working key.

You will need to weigh up which is the best way to go to start with. Should you try a recode and if it doesn’t work order the key and do a decide again?

Also so if you need to order a key take along the V5 with you and 2 forms of ID.

Hope that helps

Same thing happened to me with a new battery. Couldn't get it to work even though it seemed very straight forward but the dealer sorted it out quickly and cheaply, about £5 from memory.
