Can you retro-fit an OEM reversing camera?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if you can fit an OEM reversing camera to a Superb Mk2. I think I have the Columbus infotainment system.

If retrofitting the OEM, can you recommend an aftermarket one?

Cheers!

Bsically you can retrofit both - OEM and aftermarket. In case of OEM, you have to make the original trunk handle wider.

Thanks for that Lutz. I had already seen that, but I have the saloon/hatchback - I thought this solution only worked on estates...

(Fantastic video by the way - I saw that before I saw your post!)

I have a saloon an will soon attempt an OEM camera retrofit ... the trick is to use a camera only model (not an integrated handle), the car model from which you could use a genuine camera is a VW Scirocco ... the potential problem is that the only logical placement for the camera is above the licence plate, which is slightly lower than on the mentioned car model ...

Sounds like a workable solution! Will that solution have the stationary overlay on the video or the one that moves with the steering wheel? People seem to reference it to high-line or low-line.

I think for the moving lines you'd need to change the parking computer, the one that also supports video input apart from the parking sensors ... and that used part is around 300-400 GBP I believe ... I think the moving lines are just a distraction, if you can't park the car using the rear view mirrors, anything else gives you false confidence much to quickly ... on my previous car (C5 Tourer) I installed the reversing camera just for the peace of mind, because you can't be too sure what is happening behind the car that is nearly 5 meters long ... and especially at night, whether or not some debris/glass or something else is in the way of the rear wheels etc ...

For anyone who wants to try this, I designed a 3D printed bracket to hold the camera/handle in place so it doesn't only rely on friction: Thingiverse link. Hope it can help someone!

Thanks Lutz for the video, I followed it to the letter and it now works perfectly. Wife is very happy.
