Non starting fabia

Featured Replies

I recently inherited a 1.2 Fabia sport that had been sitting idle for a year. On the long drive home number 3 coil pack had a meltdown. I decided to replace all three just to be safe but now the engine won't start. It turns over ok, it just won't spark. I've compared the new coils with the old ones and they look the same and are for my car. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

put the old ones back on and try it again.

Thanks, I tried that earlier. I just tried it again to be sure but nothing happening.

maybe get someone with vcds to scan it for faults

Could be a bad battery check the voltage on it

Could be, although it seemed fine before the coil melted.

Have you examined the spark plugs?

Yes, they look ok

When you say 'it won't spark', how are you assessing that? I read elsewhere recently that with these pencil coilpacks, you can actually kill them by the traditional method of leaning the ground electrode of the plug on engine metalwork to eyeball whether it's sparking. Not sure whether there's any truth in it, can't see the logic myself.

Just turning the engine over on the starter, it doesn't feel or sound like its attempting to do anything. When I took the plugs out I could smell the petrol was getting through.

check fuses maybe, especially if a coil pack failed it could have shorted something out.

I just found this button, it's not in the owners manual. Is it an engine shut off switch? It was in the off position.

No, that's a chiller for your beer when the aircons running.

Seriously, check the fuses, they are in the owner's manual.

It was the ignition fuse. Up and running again now. Thanks for the assistance.

Fuse 52 then. Good news, thanks for letting us know the outcome.
