Oil Consumption

Featured Replies

Hi,

Any one with the 2 ltr petrol 220 or 280 having high oil consumption.

Had a service yesterday and when I picked it up they said that the dip stick was at 1/2 way mark. this is strange as the oil had only been changed in September at 6780 miles and now at 7877 miles. the reason I ask is when we went down to the south of France in  Aug 2016

at a start mileage of 1749 and did over 2000 miles it did not require any oil.  As the car was new I checked it several times. It had an oil change end Feb 2017 at 5001 miles and no oil used.

So my fellow Briskodians is the engine going to be an oil burner?

@ 6,780 miles when you collected the car did you check the dipstick with the oil cold, and then an at Normal Operating temperature check,

or at anytime since. Just so you know what the oil level was at after the service.

Have you checked now what is in,  Stone cold engine / oil dip, and then after at least 10 miles and oil up to at least above 50*oC indicated,

better near 80-90 *oC.

?

Why when the Oil was changed in September did it get a service done 1,097 miles later?

I change the oil and filter every 6 months as the car sometimes sits around for weeks at a time.

?

So did you check the level after the last oil / filter change or since September so that you know then the technician / fitter had the oil quantity correct at that time?

constantly(3x) adding 1l after 8 kKm, but last time it asked just after 5 kKm
engine oil changing on 6;10;10;10;8 kKm
dsg oil changed on 40 kKm

Well I have now done 8K miles in my 280 now and doesn't burn a drop.  Had it since new for nearly a year now, was not too careful running it in either as suggested to me.

Warmed the engine up and wasn't too frightened to open it up to 5K revs and beyond;)

Had an interim oil and filer change by an indy at 4k miles approx.

Since then had a family holiday in France last August where plenty of faster driving was done, still on the max mark:wondering:

You need to make sure the dipstick is fully in, I had a panic on Saturday when I washed the car, checked the oil, did not fully put the dipstick in (although I thought I had) and when I pulled it out and checked was only half way up the dipstick.  What a dipstick.:D

All good when I did it again properly.
