Throttle body needs cleaning?

Featured Replies

Hello briskodians again
My 2000 felicia sport is acting up again
When you are in 3+ gear under load the car jitters
I suspect it is the Throttle body but if i remove the cables in order to give it a good clean would it need to be reset afterwards
And if so how is this done
I also have and obd scan tool with live data logging what should i look for while driving (maybe absolute throttle position data)
Or its not the TB alltogether and its something in the injection
Possibly dirty injectors or bad controller?
Any help would be much appreciated

What you're describing has many possible causes. I will refer only to some of them, fuel related only.

Very often it is a fuel pump that is on its last leg. I would start with checking the fuel pressure (3 bar) at idle and under load. Then you might think cleaning the injectors.

What OBD scanner you have? Felicia is OBD I (one) and needs a VAG-COM scanner and associated software to show all relevant data. The rest of scanners will show generic data only (if any).

So do what I've suggested so far and we'll go from there.

sadly i have obd II
Well the car does that both on LPG and on Gas so we can assume its not the fuel pump
Its also not spark as i've switched the spark plug thingy from another felicia and the problem continued
Maybe timming (but its electronically controlled)

Why do people forget telling such "unimportant" details from the start?

We don't even know what type of engine has your car.

We don't know the history of your car and the history of the issue.

The more information you'll share, the more relevant information you'll get.

The only sure thing is that you need an OBD I scanner for Felicia.

Well the car has a 1.3l mpi engine and its a felicia sport
It has 80000 smth km on its back
Its well maintained and taken care of
Well there is no history for the issue its just spontaneuous and it seems like its intenisty has to do with the weather
Sorry for not telling the information u need to provide a possible cause (just ask me what u need to know :) )

Do the fuel pressure test, both at idle and under load.

When did you change the fuel filter last time?

In the last magor service around 8000 km b4
Ok i will check the fuel pressure it should be 3 bars u say
Will inform you back with the results
Quick questin added : If i put the tester in the feed line of the fuel system will i get an accurate measurment or will i need to hook it up somewhere else?

Do you have the Felicia service manual?

You mean it is an intermittent and random event like the weather?

If yes, expect to be difficult to find the cause.

Think also about:

  • setting the valve clearance correctly
  • checking the spark plugs

So cleaned the tb and the problem improved
I do not have the service manual
Valve clearence i will look into

  • 3 years later...

Are you sure that must be 3 bar?

I have tested yesterday with an analog gauge, 2 times the key on the 2nd scale to test the pump and then turn-on the engine

the pressure was 2,7 bar and it was steady after i turned-off the car which means the injectors weren't overflowing.
