OBDeleven

Featured Replies

I have a 17 plate Superb L&K. After nearly derailing another thread I thought I should start something here as hopefully it will help others as well as me.

I'm about to pull the trigger on an OBDeleven dongle and want to make sure I'm buying the right thing(s). I have been recommended to go for OBDeleven Pro. From their website https://obdeleven.com/en/ I see the following:

OBDeleven device £35.40

Is this the "dongle" people talk about?

Pro Pack £22.12

This looks like a download - they call it a "virtual item" on the website. Is that right?

I presume there will be some shipping for the dongle, so total price c£60. From a search that looks about right compared with what others are paying, but can someone please confirm this is the kit I need or let me know if there is anything else required. Paging @Penguin as he made the recommendation (thanks mate) but advice from all welcome. I'm only planning basic mods and am terrified of messing up the car, so VCDS is a step too far for me.

I had initially thought about getting an OBDeleven but found that my car, an SEL Executive had everything already activated and as I had no intention of using the manual coding facility so there was no point in getting the OBDeleven.

What sort of mods are you thinking of doing. The L&K will have virtually every thing already activated that the OBDeleven can activate. If you download the OBDeleven app to your smartphone it will show you what you can do and if you compare that with the spec of the car you will see if it is worth buying it.

Thanks GAG. You are right the L&K is pretty fully-loaded, but there are things I can't do like the Audi throttle mod, enhanced traction, plus TSR and HBA (mine was ex-demo so I didn't get to spec it). Hence looking at the OBDeleven for these. I also want to be able to put each mod back to standard if I don't like it, which is why I think the OBDeleven is a better bet than getting a VCDS expert to do them for me.

Yes Jeff, that's the dongle.  It'll work with any Android 4.1 + device; as an iPhone user I ended up buying an unlocked Tesco handset from eBay for £25 and then just accessing my home WiFi to get a network connection.

Things I have done with OBDEleven:

  • Diagnostic scans
  • Display fan speed when climate control set to 'AUTO'
  • Audi throttle mod (made no discernible difference to me)
  • XDS to 'Strong' - I've done this on 2 cars now and IMO it's a significant and detectable change
  • Heated seat setting memory
  • Automatically update clock at UK summertime

I have also had high beam assist enabled but had this kindly done by a fellow Briskoda member, using VCDS.  Lane assist is also possible with the A5 camera but I just don't like the functionality and wouldn't use it.  There was a fair bit of coding involved with high beam assist and I didn't feel comfortable doing it myself and with the limited UI view on a handset.

With OBDEleven PRO you start of with (I think) 10 credits and you can either buy more credits or get 1 (per day) for every time you login and browse some ads.  You can then use the 'one-touch' options to enable some settings, with each option having a credit cost involved.  Whatever function you select is then enabled/changed in the background and the credits debited from your balance.  I never used these though as say for example the 'Audi throttle mod' is accessing one controller and changing one drop down, easy enough to DIY and I think it was 8-10 credits.  I've not checked recently so I'm not sure if things like TSR, high beam assist and lane assist are possible with one-touch options, they weren't when I was last on the app.

The OBDEleven forums are pretty useful for reference but aren't regularly updated.  It also seems the majority of useful info is in the Golf and Leon boards though *some* of the adaptations are relevant on the Superb 3.

For the things I wanted to do it served my purpose.  Would I buy it again? Yes.  Would I buy VCDS? No because OBDEleven does the things I want to do and for the 1 or 2 other things I can't justify the outlay and would rather give beer tokens or cash to someone who can justify owning the cable.

Cheers Penguin. Will order the dongle in the morning and when it arrives will download the pro pack. I'm a Galaxy S8 user, so no problems on the Android front. It should give me some time to do some research on the forums before it arrives - I noticed some good threads on here with screenshots so will trawl through those as well. Thanks again - I thought this would be better in this bit of the boards as others might benefit from the info too.

My obdeleven arrived yesterday in its little white box.

I havent ordered the pro pack yet, the apps do most of the functions I need and I’m building up my free credit for when the Karoq arrives.

I’ve plugged into my Dads mk4 Golf and it seems easy enough to use.

Already got my first request from a neighbour to unlock the navigation DVD in his A6.

Seems like a bargain for £40.

So it arrived yesterday and I got to add the pro pack and have a short play today. Scan revealed no problems - all good. But I couldn't resist making a change just to see how the apps work (not brave enough to get into long coding yet). So my XDS is now strong and I'm 10 credits lighter:biggrin:. All recovered by watching some ads. Haven't yet had a chance to see if the adaptation makes any noticeable difference but I have my usual 150 mile commute tomorrow so we will see after that.

So you buy a product, buy a piece of software to use with the product, then you get to watch adverts so that you can use the equipment and software you just paid for? That sounds like a real bargain.

I know when I've had enough of my VCDS kit I can sell it as easily as anything, and get pretty much all my money back.

You only need to do that if you can’t be bothered coding yourself. There is no requirement to use the one click apps to change anything and thus no need to watch adverts to gain credits and use them.

Ive said before, but good luck to anyone using the apps. Clicking a button that makes multiple changes to my cars coding without me knowing what’s actualy being changed? No thanks.

@BriskodaJeff would advise you to get yourself an autoscan done at least once and keep it somewhere safe.

I've had someone come to me with an OBDEleven modded car with numerous errors having come up post-coding.

Fortunately he had an autoscan and I reverted the coding back to those settings and re-did his changes with VCDS.

Thanks for the comments all. Sound advice @bspman - will certainly look into that. I also see your point @SC03OTT - if I were planning any significant changes I would not do them myself as I don't have that level of understanding of long coding. So if I ever do want something more complex, I'll be contacting someone with VCDS and a very good understanding of how to use it. For me it's just a gentle toe in the water at this stage. @TheRoq - will be good to hear how you get on with your unit when the new car arrives.

I've unlocked the pro version now so I can have full control.

The apps are useful for simple changes but as stated above I would be cautious about using them for complicated changes. If something did go wrong it could be difficult putting it back to how it was.

I plugged into my neighbours Audi and unlocked the DVD drive with an app but that is only a simple channel change anyway.

For £60 I cant complain about the cost for what it can do.

You just tap in the VIN number and it identifies the car then shows you all the apps available or gives you the options for reading fault codes, coding, live data, etc...

@BriskodaJeff there's a member map below.
