Hi all . Went to go out in car . Turned key and got a single click ... sounds like the solenoid to me .. I then removed the wire from solenoid and turned key . No click . So it sounds like the wire isn’t broken . Would you change just solenoid or whole starter motor ?? And would any of you buy a second hand one

If you're certain it's not the battery then I would just change the solenoid for a brand new one, they're a fraction of the price of a complete starter and are easy to do since you have to remove the complete starter anyway.

I wouldn't rule out the wire quite yet. Give it a bit of a pull test, and inspect carefully for cracked insulation and horrors beneath.

Do I have to buy a solenoid for a Fabia VRS or does the starter fit other cars ... before I order . If I was to put 12v to the solenoid . (Ie remove original wire ) that should tell me if solenoid is goosed ??? 

No, it'll be a standard Bosch solenoid as fitted to many Bosch starters, you need to get the old one off to check the part number so you can order the right one.
