Newbie Gets a 4X4

Featured Replies

I have just done a bit of research in to the suspension for the hatch and managed to get a nice set up.

Hopefully will find out soon as I just did supply.

Sarah

Really Sarah? :P :D I should have the setup fitted in about two weeks so will obviously report back here straight after. :)

good lad:)

Not exactly but talking of Tea I trust its Earl Grey, always better though Black with a slice of Lemon

Snob !

i'll stick to my pyramid bags thanks...

i did also think about the review where he said he didnt find the vRS an electrifying drive but rated the 4x4... i put it down to the extra drive he got in the 4x4 and the fact that it does have the rear wheels driven when the fronts loose grip...

Hi Lee

Make sure you do.

Then we can sort you out that Carbonio ;)

And I usually have Yorkshire tea , weak with 1 sugar.

Nigel's right.

The VRS test drive was too short, with a salesman on board.

I knew the 4x4 was slower but I gave it a good test on my own over 30 minutes.

I'm sure if I'd've had the same test drive with the VRS I'd've had a different opinion.

That said, my missus didn't like the VRS interior and after sliding all over the Peak District in the Clio, I decided a 4x4 was beneficial.

Sarah - thanks for being a regular contributor that I noticed in 3/4 months of research.

Oh I am there now.

Yes I love it on here.

The best thing is , it is part of my job ;)

But hey I love the cars too.

When are you going to remap it?

Oh and D/V , CAI that way the sound will be awesome my son had this done to his Mk4 and I drove it back home freezing , but I refused to wind the window up.

Oh nice!!!

Sarah

I'm also a newbe with a 4X4 and I think it's Ggggggr8.............but. How the hell is one supposed to see the climate control without stopping the car and crouching down?

simply by tilting ones head in a downward motion towards the display, the modern human is quite flexible you know :)

HTH

Or set the stream radio up to display the info on its screen, its not hard finding the buttons and with the temp etc displayed higher up you spend less time with your eyes off the road.

will doesn't say if it's an old or new 4x4. fairly sure the old ones couldn't display temp info :)

Bengie, try pressing the MFD button a few more times ;) Mine displays current outside temp. Or is that not what you/he meant ?

On my new octavia 4x4 so I assume the other new shape models will as well, the stream unit can display the modes of the heater for a short period when you change anything. Its in the settings somewhere (the same settings that switch on a non exsistant Aux in connection etc).

Wow this thread is getting convoluted, but.

My good lady wife is often not satisfied with my choices and last week asked me to drop the temperature whilst motoring down the M11. Now, One has no intention of tilting Ones head downwards and adjusting controls while doing (about) 70 however flexible One happens to be.

For all that I still love the 'forby'

i went from a vtr, or should i say gokart. had my vrs a month. love it.

hardly any road noise as described up top. using federals as came with car.

The whole point of climate control is you set the temperature and put it in auto and you should never have touch it again. The only times I need to touch it is to demist the screen which I do when stationary before setting off or to press the econ button (or super pusuit mode as I like to call it ;) ).

it was meant as a joke and made me laugh whilst typing it. offence meant :)

Just done a round trip of 450 miles.

Put the armrest down and held my own and more with the big boys in the fast lane.

BMWs really don't like being overtaken....

33 mpg but if I'd've gone slower it may have been 38mpg.

Love this car! I've got used to softer suspension and even the stereo.

A remap must, er...will... be awesome....

Love it!

p.s. I also get the bit between 1500 and 2000 revs where the turbo seems to 'jerk' into life.

or to press the econ button (or super pusuit mode as I like to call it ;) ).

 Mines nearly always in ECON, does that mean I'm always chasing people? I love that term, "super pursuit mode". :D

why have aircon and not use it?

why have aircon and not use it?

Aircon has to be used on a regular basis or it fails

indeed, at least once a month i think

isn't it down to the gas used in the cooling system also being the lubricant for the pump/seals etc so if the gas isn't circulating the system isn't getting lubricated so rubber seals dry out and fail and also some parts can start to seize?

Yep thats the rumour Ive heard a few times

Bengie, the cars finally finished if you fancy a spin to wet your appetite for the IHI, Frank drove it the other day & hes now sorting his Jabba shopping list

ooohhhhh, i should be getting my non fubar ex-vRS turbo and ATP manifold fitted soon so mine should be back up and running how it should again:)

i'd be very grateful of a drive to see what a 350HP octavia is like before i take the plunge :D

as soon as mines back how it should be stuart i'll give you a call so we can compare notes :)

why have aircon and not use it?

It's not quite warm enough yet to warrant constant use of it! I try and run it on AUTO a few times a month to make sure it is used for the reasons pointed out above. It's not quite clear whether the aircon is running or not anyway.
