VCDS adaptations

Featured Replies

I want to make a couple of adaptations to the VCDS and wondered what is the best way to go about this. Specifically I want the Audi throttle response enabled (would have got a Pedalbox but that would invalidate my French insurance) and the automatic locking with Kessy (without pressing the sensor on the handle). Judging from the map of VCDS owners there's noone close to me here in France. Is this something a dealer might do? Or should I wait till I'm back in the UK around Easter and contact someone via Briskoda? If the latter - is this a formally paid service or is it a matter of making a contribution for being helped out?

Dealers will not do the throttle mod and I doubt they will do the auto lock either

With the auto lock the mirrors will not fold, it would also need VCDS to turn it off (so make sure you really want it!)

If you are coming over via Calais then I may be able to help as I’m halfway between Dover dock and Eurotunnel.

I'm not sure if this differs between manual and DSG but the Audi throttle mod made no difference whatsoever for me. Based on other threads, I think 99% of people who've also changed it felt there was no significant change/improvement.

Oi @Penguin! On your recommendation I've just shelled out very nearly forty of my hard earned pounds to get the dongle to make that mod! It had better transform every bit of the car, including making it newer, faster, cleaner, more economical and cheaper to tax, or I'm holding you personally responsible.

Seriously though, the range of responses on the Audi mod is as extreme as you can get. Everything from "transforms the car" to "no difference" to "changed it but didn't like it so put it back". For that reason I am going down the OBDeleven route so I can put it on and back without having to rely on a friendly VCDS owner. Might be worth a thought @The Wanderer.

Re auto closing, FWIW I would not lose the mirror folding function for all the tea in China. It's the only "proof" I have that I've actually remembered to lock the car once I have walked away from it.

No you paid almost 40 just for XDS = strong

Agreed on the folding mirror function though.  Saves me that extra few metres of walking when I have a "Did I lock the car moment?" after we've already walked off around the corner.

Just done a quick search of Obdeleven. Thanks for pointing this out Jeff. So I can make both adjustments with this, right? This is the dongle I assume: https://obdeleven.com/en/home/10-obdeleven-device.html. Excuse my ignorance but where does it go?

Thanks for the kind offer Gizmo - will see how I get on with the Obdeleven. Hopefully I'll be able to do these mods myself.

Re. the auto locking - as I understood it your mirrors still fold if you use the sensor. This is right, isn't it? The attraction is that I won't have a "Did I lock the car moment" around the corner, Penguin17, as it will have auto locked regardless!:D

I imagine the Audi mod would make more difference with DSG - with a manual you have much more control just by using the gears. It would drive me mad if I was shifting manually and suffering the same lag after shifting as I do with the DSG. Is there a consensus on the difference between the lag on the DSG and the manual?

I don't think you will be able to do the auto-lock with Obdeleven - it's a cut-down version of VCDS (as I understand it). I ordered mine on Saturday and don't yet have the first clue how it works. I believe to make mods like the Audi pedal mod you need the Pro add-on. It's a download that costs c£20, meaning the whole lot comes to about £60. You have linked to the right product - either that or I've just bought the wrong one:biggrin:. There is a connector port under the steering wheel housing where you plug it in I think. I've started a thread on it in the VCDS section of the site where I will ask dumb questions and hopefully get sensible answers once I get it and start using it.

I'm hoping you are right re the audi mod and DSG - I have DSG, Penguin currently has manual. But as far as I can tell, reviews are mixed across the board of fuel and transmission types. Can't comment on what happens if you use the sensors after enabling autolock sorry.

If your OCD is as strong as mine, this could easily eat a third of your day:biggrin:

I don’t have a spare 1/3. Washing my hands and switching every light switch on/off 100 times is very time consuming!

Not sure where you plucked those figures from but out of all the (many) ones I have coded not one person has said it made no difference, quite the opposite in fact.

Not sure if doing it with VCDS make a difference or even if it is operator error when coding, but given that this one of the easiest codings you can do I seriously doubt this.

No it’s not a ‘cut down version’ as you put it... OBDeleven have simply just reverse engineered part of what VCDS does.

Just because it’s cheaper (as they have very little R&D to put in) doesn’t mean it’s a good alternative to what they are copying... and that’s before you go into what is morally wrong with stealing someone else work.

Even if Ross-Tech offered VCDS for £10 you will always get some scrote who expects it for nothing.

Based on many posts on this forum and SCN (and also my own experience) The usual chain of events is throttle lag observed > tried Audi setting via VCDS > ended up with a pedal box.

That’s different to saying there is “no significant change/improvement”

I did the ‘Audi mod’ 1st as I own VCDS so it was the obvious choice, yes it improved the throttle response and reduced the lag, it did however not remove it completely which is what I was after so I bought the pedalbox and yes it does improve the response further (the ‘Audi mod’ was removed before fitting the pedalbox.)

I am intrigued enough to want to try the ‘Linear acceleration mod’ so will hopefully do this at the weekend when I will get chance to fully road test the results (not going to chance it en-route to work at 0300 hrs!)

This will be done on it’s own and then with the ‘Audi mod’ (with pedalbox turned off)

It is clear that some ECU’s do not like the coding, the cars I have done were mainly 190 or 280s.

Any correlation with the ECU types that can and can’t be remapped by the main vendors such as Revo?

At the time I looked into it Revo could remap the 150 TDI but it was dependent on which ECU was present.

Ah possibly?

I know both the 190 and 280 can be remapped

Is obdelevrn really stolen from vcds?

With regard to hesitation on pulling out, Honest John reckons it's the brake not signalling that it's released quick enough.

If so, is this something that could be reprogrammed?

Hi!  Have you been able to try the linear acceleration mod? I have yet to try the audi mod , but I have a 0C in that bit, and I do not know if I dare.

Yes I have tried it, it makes a slight improvement  (they all add up).
