Estate Retractable Roller Cover-Not!

Featured Replies

I have a 66 plate Skoda estate and the manual retractable roller cover (for the load area) is poor to say the least. I thought I saw someone post how to tighten it so it did what it should do-retract, but I can't find it anymore. Has anyone got anything they can share with me please, especially how to get the end covers off? Thank you.

Mine was very stiff, wouldn't roll back at all.  You had to push it back, which ended up kind of crumpling it.

Took it back to the dealer who ordered a new one which now works fine.  Can be a bit stiff in very cold weather but then that applies to us all!

A little silicone spray on the runners works a treat to loosen it up a bit.

Thanks Mickey43 I will try the silicone spray. I thought I saw something on here that showed us how to retension it but I must have mixed this site up with another.

No - I did also read that post on this forum, can't find it now. Maybe it got erased for some reason?

Is this the post you folks are lokign for?

I used a little dry lube on the catches and runners. It's worked perfectly ever since.

I have the same problem. Mentioned it when it went in for a service - I was told there was debris in the runners. It made it sound like I should have cleaned it, but it had been like it from new.

Still the same now, so I tried it the other day with it out of the runners, but it didn't seem any better.

I was not impressed with the dealer's response to this, nor the other items that I mentioned. I would take it to another dealer, but I don't know if I can be a*sed. I've only got it for another nine months and it will be due for its next service just before it goes.

The radio hasn't worked properly since day one, but of course they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

If I do have another Skoda, I certainly won't be going back to the same dealer.

Thanks joi, that was it. I've got my car for 3 more years yet so I tried a little oil on the exposed roller ends when the cover is pulled out and it has made it tolerable to use. Thanks to everyone for their input  :)

My roller is shocking, it just gets jammed all the time

I've had my S3 a week now (!) and have just removed the cover and put it in the storage position under the variable floor, where it will probably stay!  Mainly because we have a dog crate permanently in the boot, but also because the two times my family have had cars broken in to, it was on estate cars with the cover over, and the buggers smashed the back window, released the cover and then naffed off when they realised there was nothing of value underneath!

So now my policy is to leave it open or remove it a bit like those truck drivers leave empty trailer doors open in services, in the hope a potential vandal will see there is nothing under there!

I had same issue (stucking roller) I went to dealer and they some how "reset" tension and oiled it a little. Works awesome now. Very smooth zero stopping.

Got a new one fitted today under warranty.

mine had this issue - slow/not fully retracting. i complained about mine on the first service. they lubed the runner which helped, for a bit. i then complained about it again. dealer got it replaced it under warranty in the end and now working okay.
