Things to look for

Featured Replies

Hi all...

I'm new here (joined up today) and hopefully if all goes to plan i'll be in the market for an Octavia RS in the new year.

Now, what i wanted to know is, is there anything i need to be aware of when looking over / test driving one of these fine machines?

I'll be buying one second hand from a dealer somewhere so apart from the obvious full history etc what else do i need to make sure i get for my money?

What kind of insurance should i be looking at for a 26 year old with 3 point for speeding but an unblemished 6 years of no claims ? and can anyone recommend a good insurance company ?

Sorry for the bombardment of Q's on my first post as well.

Welcome to the site. :D

I'll let a vRS owner detail what to look out for, but for insurance I have to recommend Liverpool Victoria, as they're very mod friendly - something that tends to happen when people get their hands on a vRS. :D (they also don't care about penalty points - something I'm grateful for)

I'd say just enjoy it!

thanks for the feed back, a mate of mine has a vRS and has just had it Jabba'd, hopefully we'll be going for a blast next weekend so i'll see how things feel then.

So far i've been going on reviews off the net and cant find anything bad about the car but i reckon its best to find these things out from the owners...

Cant wait though :drive:

You've just said the magic word, "Jabba" :D

If you're planning a similar feat (and I won't blame you if you're getting a ride in a Jabba'd one) then Liverpool Victoria will deffo be the best insurer for you. ( and point your mate in the direction of this forum, he'll fit right in with a Jabba'd vRS. )

funny you should say that, he pointed me here... i'm guessing he's already a registered member

i've heard good things from people using LV for insurance though, i'm currently an organiser of the Renault Sports Club and alot of our members use them, apparently they just look at engine mods (what ever you do) as engine work and stick a small amount onto your premium.

Oh... :D - what's his first name? We may already be aware of his presence then...

Welcome, Nigel

What to look for - a few small things:

engine - coilpacks, depending on the age of the car may have some of the older type fitted. Worth asking the dealer to upgrade them all to the latest variant before delivery for peace of mind.

interior - the VRS has very pale carpets which are easily stained. Check for anything bad in this area.

interior - the VRS has half leather seats (again with a very pale centre panel), and many owners have had problems with the stiching between the leather and cloth parts, fraying and failure of the seams holding the parts together. Also one or two problems with broken seats.

exterior - everyone reckons parking sensors are a VERY useful feature on the Octavia due to its lack of rearward visibility. Worth haggling for as a deal clincher.

All VRSs are pretty much still in warranty anyway so some of these issues could still be fixable even if they occur once you've got the car.

I'm sure some real VRS owners will chip in if I've missed important stuff

Insurance - heck, pick a number between 700 and 1300 depending on company. I don't think you'll get it under 700 at 26 (but I could be wrong).

Good Luck!

I will take you out when i see you at EP.

Got to calibrate his rollers tomorrow so it's all ready for the 15th.

Still getting quicker and has passed the Cup already.

devonutopia. Do you know what i am getting for christmas being aware of my presence

sounds good to me then, i might get onto Flux to see what they can do seeing as i've been with them for a few years now...

it wont be Jabba'd for a while though, i'll more than likely keep it standard for the 1st 6-12 months.

We'll see how long that lasts... :D

Might be worth giving greenlight a go as well, as they quoted me

well i'll do a bit more digging about and see what i can come up with.

Thanks for the responses though

Right, got to shoot, on the early shift and i shouldnt be surfing to much at work :program:

See you next weekend Paul

 - Nope... But at least we now know whom he was talking about. :D

As for insurance,

i could be mistaken , but i thought the insurance group for the octy RS was 16?

Just wait until you get it Jabba'd... (if?) - I reckon it will soon shoot up to over

17" alloys are an absolute minimum for a vRS to have any credibility on Briskoda. Some imports - and early models - only have 16" wheels. Colour is another BIG issue with some members and my earlier caveat also applies.

That's what I thought too ...

That's what I thought too ...
Me too! The 4X4 is Group 13, the L&K 14 and the RS is 16.
