Accord Type R - how fast?

Featured Replies

Just wondered - came across one last night and wasn't highly impressed :D :D

Mind you, 251 lbf @ 2300 rpm as opposed to 159 lbf @ 6700 rpm

Are they slower than the CTR?

All the magazines loved em when they where new, only problem is they are very revvy, and no matter how quick you change gear you can't keep the engine in the VTEC power band which is somewhere around 5200ish rpm upwards.

Good cars though and discreet without the rear spoiler ala Mr Plod

i like them :)

one did come unstuck when trying to match me round a higher speed corner mind you

Smashing car to drive, with Japanese build quality:thumbup:

Great cars, although lack of torque can become tiring.

Faster than a CTR.

I'd have one if they did a hatchback/estate version :(

I must say I like them :) :) I don't know if I could get used to the poor torque compared to the 1.8T, though

I was surprised how easily last nights victim was dispatched

My old man had one as a company car for 3 years, in that time we put 65k on it and it was used *ahem* enthusiastically... Like if you want to come back into the VTEC zone when you change up to fourth, then you *have* to take it at least 300rpm into the red in third! But in all the time he had it the only thing that went wrong was a cam belt tensioner, although when it went I suspect the syncro on 5th was becoming weak. As an aside the gearbox, although being fanstastic, was it's weakest point, it really did need 6 gears.

Superb car to drive, in fact I'd go so far as to say it was perfect for a FWD car. The Octavia vRS would probably be faster in the real world, with all that torque low down, but the Accord would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner round a track.

Only downside to it? Costs a ba**ard fortune to run. When it was serviced at 24k it cost £400, new front pads required, and got through £5k worth of tyres...
