Was the sale of the vehicle a dealership purchase (albeit an Aston Martin dealership) or was it a private sale (as in you bought the car from a person who just happens to manage a dealership)? It could very easily be that despite going to a dealers and looking at a vehicle which you then purchased, you actually bought the car from the manager directly so it would be a private sale with much reduced consumer rights.

To be honest, there are so many vague statements and assumptions in this thread that it's not possible to make an informed judgement as to who is to blame or what the cause of the failure actually is.

I agree, my understanding is that you have no contractual relationship with Skoda UK so how can you sue them.  The contractual relationship is with the Aston Martin dealer but as you have had the car for 10 months it would be almost impossible to prove it was a pre existing fault.  Either that, or proof the car was clocked or mapped.  The cam belt isn’t ‘guaranteed’ for a particular mileage or time, so a premature failure relies on good will or £ to get it fixed.  Good will tends to disappear once you leave the dealer network for either purchase or servicing.  This is why you can take out insured warranties.  Harsh, but you will have paid less for the car than you would have an approved used car (which would still be covered by a warranty).  Therefore, there is no incentive for Skoda UK to do any more for you than they legally have to.

I had one hell of a time getting Skoda to pay for clutch failure after just 17K miles. I paid for an independent inspection which proved CLEAR manufacturing-defect, but Skoda still refused to pay until the point legal action. In the end they covered full costs and expenses, but it took many months.

 

My guess is that you'll have no luck with Skoda after 80K miles unless you can clearly prove a manufacturing defect.

How much (need to get it fixed first and pay)?

As pointed out, this course of action involves getting the car repaired, getting an engineers report to squarely lay blame at the feet of someone, gathering other evidence to support the claim etc., and then taking someone to court for your expenses involved in repairing the vehicle.

 

Without knowing the exact circumstances of the purchase, implied warranty, legal requirements undertaken by any relevant party, and so many other such things, it's a pointless idea linking to that site unless you have some idea of who exactly is to blame for what. You can't take someone through small claims and have the court rule that they should repair your car for you.

Sadly yes 😔  not failed as in snapped just frayed across 50% ish of its width what happened to your engine

@dhandley as per the thread you started are you sure your vRS has a cambelt? If it's a TSI then it does NOT.
