Dismount the starter motor, it works fine! It's the engine. Try to manually turn it, can only turn back and forward about 20-30 degrees and locked.

Sorry about your bad luck, that engine is history, you have an unpleasant decision to make.

If the car doesn't owe you much then throw it away and buy another one, 1.9 TDI is mega reliable even at high mileages.

Big thanks to everyone's help! The car just pass it's MOT 2days and had all 4 new tyres fitted, and it runs for years without any problem, I'm thinking of rebuild the engine, is it a good idea? Anyone knows how much I'm looking at? Thanks again.

Well you may as well take the head off and have a look what that may show?  Apart from your time, you'll be no worse off, and you'd get a much better idea of what might be possible by way of repair?

Maybe double-check that the timing belt hasn't jumped first. Not sure quite how on that engine, but someone on here may know a quick/easy way?

If I wake up early tomorrow I'll see what I can dig up out of Haynes or www.

Whilst I sympathise with the OP, this is a doomed endeavour, the engine died whilst being driven therefore the damage will be catastrophic.

I'd try and find a complete secondhand engine, it will be simpler, cheaper and quicker to just swap them over.
