Experiences of 1.0 DSG Vs Manual Please?

Featured Replies

After having to sell my '14 plate 1.4 SE Estate because I have to have a company car with my new job. Looked at the (limited) list and wait for it... I'm going for an Octavia estate. This time its got to be a 1.0 petrol but I do have the choice of manual or DSG. I tested a Seat Leon ST 1.0 DSG this morning but felt a bit underwhelmed by the experience. The box changed up so early and it just didn't feel involving. Lovely box but I couldn't imagine having much fun in it. I've just seen that I can pay a bit more for the Octavia with sport wheel with flappy paddles and wonder whether this will give me back a bit of control & fun.

Does anyone have any experiences of the 1.0 with or without flappy paddles? I'd love a bit of advice before taking the plunge

Many thanks

Not the 1 litre but I have driven the 1.4 TSi in manual and DSG and the 2.0 diesel in manual and DSG (2 DSGS actually but one was a Golf). I wanted to like them but couldn't. The 7 speed in the 1.4 just seemed to have too many gears, 6 is plenty in the manual so why does it need to complicate things with 7. Performance was OK but I was expecting so much more for £1500. Both 2 litre DSGs were both slow off the line unless you booted them and then you were in danger of ramming the car ahead, not a relaxing drive in town and traffic at all. Parking and slow speed moves are a pain as well.

But

Compared to any CVT they are brilliant.

Manual for me every time until I try something I like better. Keeping an open mind.
