(unless sir would like "sand" as per the ora... lighter tones of the L&K and *some* elegances)

Aye, and a bugger to keep clean it is too. Matches nicely with the beige leather tho!!

dark grey is black' date=' if that makes sense....

There are only two carpet colours in grey tones, light and dark grey...

ahem, well the L&K can also now come in the darker grey, complete with black leather or black leather and alcantara. No way I was buying one until the dealer pointed out the change away form compulsory yellow leather and carpets (yuck!) :drive:

I didn't have the option ('02 car), but TBH it looks quite classy when it is clean - very reminiscent of some BMW or Audi interiors. Certainly was cooler in the summer. Goes well with the Cayenne paint as well. I can imagine a silver L&K with the beige interior looking pretty awful.

I think the lighter carpets make a pleasant change from the usual greys & blacks, but sheer practicality is my reason for considering a change.

If i've shampoo'd a car carpet more than 3 times in the last 15 years i'd be surprised. I've already done the Octy twice....

Trouble with shampooing is - once you start you won't be able to stop, as the shampoo residue you leave (and you will leave some) will just attract the dirt again.

3 things can help slow the dirt's progress:

- scotchguard when new

- regular vacuuming

- steam cleaning from time to time

None of which I have practiced!! :D

Yeah, looks good with Canada Green too but with anything else it's gopping! Funnily enough when I ordered mine there was an 8 week wait for black leather (build to order) but any number of the beige leather available immediately from stock :-)

well the car went in for its transplant today. i know it's only a carpet, but i can't wait to see what it looks like!

will u manage pictures? im pretty sure it will look great! probably as it should have done!!

  • Author

it will be dark by the time i get home but will definitely take pictures tomorrow and post them up.

speaking with one of the salesman about it today. he said that a number of them couldn't understand why they had not changed the colour of the carpet at the same time as they changed the headlining from grey to black (i think my2002).

do you think most dealers would be happy to change the carpet? and maybe that fake stuff around the radio?

do you think it would effect the resale value?

  • Author

they'll be happy to change i'm sure. of course, they're not doing it for free.

i'll be getting the ashtray/climate control/radio/gear surround trim done very soon. should have been today but they hadn't ordered in the parts.

resale? well, i'm sure that the carpet will look better in black in a couple of years time compared to grey. i'd be very surprised if someone didn't want to give book price for it because of this.

for the surround trim, i'll be holding on to that and may put it back when i get rid. since i'll be part-exing, i'll probably just give the car to the dealer with a plastic bag full of fake carbon fibre type stuff trim.

cool, cant wait to hear how yours goes. i think it will look great.

how much is it costing for the carpet and fitting?

im my defence....lol

that 200 quid was for the dash trim aswell wondering for carpet only?

  • Author

the carpet's the main cost at 200 quid. the trim bits i can't remember the exact cost of, but they're not expensive or difficult to fit.

  • Author

ok, so here are some pictures. not great but the weather was crap and i wanted to get inside.

you can tell that the carpet is more anthracite than black but it looks really good- as dark as i could get. haven't had a chance myself to see what it looks like in daylight.

got in the car at horners, shoes were wet and mucky. did i care? no!! :D

Certainly looks alot better than mine now. Could be the contrast on the photos but I might be tempted to change the mats too.

i think you're right. the mats are black, the carpet isn't.

i'll see how it looks in the morning. if it's too different, i'll buy some mats to match.

Looks very tidy Huck

can u get vRS mats to match tho?

Huck,

I'm inManc next weekend (to see the Wonderstuff at the Apollo). Is the old carpet still up for grabs?

The black carpet does look good though.....

Steve

kenny,

i'll see tomorrow what the difference is in colour. i'm not too arsed about the mats being non-RS ones if it's a total mismatch with them (which i doubt)

steve,

you have pm.

 Ver nice Huck - might go this way myself, but will probably wait until i've well and truly trashed the normal stuff -which probably won't take too long with baby etc

can you order octy carpet in red?
