Out with the old.....

Featured Replies

.....and in with the new carpet !!

some of you may now that there were three things i didn't like about my last RS.

- the carpet colour

- the fake metallic/carbon fibre look trim stuff

- the headlining colour

well, the headlining colour was not a problem this time around as it's black.

which leaves the carpet and the trim.

now i thought i could live with it but i can't. the carpet is already dirty and only a shampoo will clean it properly which i can't be bothered doing. so, next week, i'm getting the carpet and trim(just looks cheap and nasty, jmho) changed to plain black.

i'm sure most of you can't be bothered about it, but i'm a bit obsessive and a nitpicker and i'm glad i'm getting it done.

i've thought about resale, so i'm keeping the trim but i honestly do think the carpet will look better in 2 years time in black, rather than light grey.

Sounds good Huck, expensive?

expensive? well, i guess that depends on your outlook ;)

about 200 quid for the lot. don't know if that's good or bad but i'm ok with it.

quite looking forward to it really - i think the RS carpet has always been all wrong.

edited to add:

sorry! forgot about the 'my styling' section. oops!

where are you getting the work done?

Personally I haven't found that the carpets are that bad to get clean (although I guess my version of clean may not be others :p

Obviously still a BMW tart still Huck ..... but OTH can I have the old carpets / trim that gets taken off just in case :D

Huck,

Just an idea, not sure if ever planning any stereo upgrading, but while the carpet is out will not cost much to throw a couple of cables in, no great loss if you never use them but a lot easier if you do.

Horners (bless em) laid some for me when mine was replaced, saved a lot of ballache.

Interesting technique you have for doing installations if that's what aches! :p

Horners changed my (non-faulty) rear registration plate light bulb free of charge while they had my rear boot trim off for reattaching the washer jet hose. And they offered me free screenwash. Fantastic service... :)

Rob.

Huck,

I've been thinking of changing the carpet too. Probably when this winter is out of the way.

Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out ;)

Ditto. If I had the cash I'd also dump the silver seat and door trim.

I don't mind the seat & door trims as no-one gets into my car with dirty clothes. The carpet however is another matter as its damn near impossible to keep it clean even in dry weather.

But its all part of the fun ;)

i did once consider seriously getting the seat inserts trimmed, but couldn't be bothered as they don't really bother me and i think it looks pretty nifty.

like geoff, no dirty bods allowed in my car but there's bug-all you can do about the grey carpets. :(

that trim........yeuch!

I put a towel under the Sprog's car seat to catch any bits of food, spew etc. So far so good.

Been thinking about getting some of the Golf R32 brushed alumunium trim...seems the door fittings are ok but the surround on the dash is different.....doh!

Previous generation Passat might yield better results. :)

Rob.

Cheers Rob.....will check it out.

quite fancy some real aluminium around dash. much better than whats there.

what is in normal octavia's around dash?

do normal octy's have black carpets?

Assuming Ambiente as normal' date=' it has black plastic round the dash, and dark grey carpet.

Not sure if that gives a better idea...

Rob.

cheers, think that looks better than the vRS stuff. do any octys have black carpets

Dunno - someone on here might have them, but you'll probably get a quicker answer from your dealer...

Rob.

dark grey is black, if that makes sense....

There are only two carpet colours in grey tones, light and dark grey...

(unless sir would like "sand" as per the ora... lighter tones of the L&K and *some* elegances)

So I guess that leaves the option of using the existing carpet as a template to create a custom carpet from some black material, or to dye the existing one black using some kind of material dye - probably not best doing it if scotchguarded though... ;)

Rob.

dark grey it is lol.

ill wait and see hucks pics

Having just had a look at ETKA, is it a complete (original) floor cover in black which you are having fitted, Huck?
