2 newbie questions on touchscreen & rear window heater

Featured Replies

Had my 65 plate Octavia VRS estate for just over 3 weeks now and wanted to check a few things with others that don't seem quite right

1. Touchscreen quite often (but not all the time) doesn't work first thing & especially in the cold, like this morning. It also seems to get stuck every so often (again when first start up) on a button and, with the touchscreen sound on, sounds like a series of beeps. After 5/10 minutes it seems fine and so it is difficult to demonstrate the issue to anyone. Does this happen to anyone else?

2. Rear screen heater just doesn't seem to work. On my Mondeo I used to get visible defrost bars in the frosted screen as the element heated up but in the Skoda the rear screen doesn't seem to do that and the whole screen defrosts eventually but I think that only happens due to the increase in cabin temperature. Does anyone else get visible defrost lines?

Just want to see if either of these happen elsewhere as have 5 months to sort under warranty if not. Thanks.

My touchscreen OK but top 3 elements of heated rear window seem not to work.  Mine is 65 reg.

Typo

The touchscreen issue is quite common (from older cars) with the screen becoming unresponsive when cold.

There are several other threads for this issue but I guess you need to replace the touchscreen to fix it.

The rear heater should give visible lines when warming up, especially when its colder.

Where did you buy it from?

Ideally, I would take it back & ask them to investigate.

The best way to demonstrate the touch screen problem is by taking a video when it happens but I'm sure the technicians in a VW garage would already know this issue.

Is the fuse for the rear window heater OK? Might just be that is blown...

I had the unresponsive touch screen a few times during the first winter on really cold mornings, but it went away and hasn’t happened in my memory over the last 2 winters not sure if it got an upgrade during a service

The top three ‘elements’ are not part of the window heating system.

Thanks Scott.  Assume they act as radio antenna etc then.

They aren’t part of the radio, they are the lines in the rear quarterlights but yes, the top 3 bars aren’t part of the heat system. Really annoying if you ask me as it makes the car look broken!

On the estate, yes the rear quarters would be antenna. For the hatch, it’s the three elements as mentioned.

Oh yeah, didn’t think about the hatch!! Ooopsie :blush

Does the light on the switch come on?

Yes the light on the switch comes on.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just thought I would update this.

The rear screen was apparently a loose connection and now works.

The touchscreen has been referred to Skoda and I am waiting to hear back from the dealer.

Also had some recall work done but I realised I didn't find out what that was, so I'll ask when I find out about the touchscreen.

Thanks for all your comments.
