My egr is currently disconnected to cure rough idle. It's had a new egr valve but this hasn't cured it. Does anyone know what the thing is that's connected to the small things pipe... Mine is not connected to anything??

 

Pic 1 shows Egr with no part connected

 

Pic. 2 has a pipe and cylinder shape thing attached..  missing on my car

 

Hope this makes sense, thanks for any advice
