Double din stereo

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I'm looking at replacing the stock stereo to touch screen model. However I can not locate one that'll fit the dimensions.

length of original stereo is 190mm and height is 132mm give or take a mm.

Does the measurements go from the very edge of the centre console to the other (Thus including the little side cover thingy ma jigs :-D)?

I like the xtrons make as had that in the astra and worked a treat and not so expensive. Or if someone can recommend a stereo that's not more than say £160..(Just bought the car mind lol

Fabia vrs 2006 1.9L TDI

Cheers all.

The hole size if you take both the stereo and cubby out is that of a stock double din. Its only the face on the stock HU thats an awkward size. You have to get hold of the skoda upper trim piece for around a fiver to fille the gap under the array of buttons there.

You can see it here on top of my retro cassette player. Notice a dash CD changer. Both are single din and fit perfectly into a double din hole.

You may also find that you have to remove this support bit to keep the double din depending on how the wiring loom is made up, as I found when I installed one a few years ago.

Aarrggh cheers bud, search goes on lol

Ive never fitted a double din, but quite a bit of trimming was required on my single din to get the cage to lock in properly. Just takes a bit of time and patience to get it right.

It should connect up ok but you will need an adapter to power your standard aerial.

you need to splice that wire into a switched live off the back of the radio.

As mentioned above you need that little piece of trim from the dealer to blank the gap left by the new radio.

I must say the black trim is much nicer than the silver in my VRS

Incase you need to remove the rear support in the hole. Its only plastic and can be cut with a regular soldering iron. I had to trim mine as I fitted VW items and needed a little space for wiring. Took seconds to cut and trim.

My experience was also that it needed lots of trimming.

I ended up taking it to a shop because I realised that the in-line connector for my MFSW didn't work. (they had to splice an octy 2 connector to make it work).

Yeah I don't want to have to do too much work, had enough of the astra lol

at least you dont have to worry about mfsw in the fabia

I got this from argos. Nice and easy to fit and works seamlessly with my phone using Spotify.

Nice and nice price, did you have to purchase any additional cabling, facia?

Also if your none car electrical minded is it an easy install?

Easy to fit.just a little filing to make the cage fit.  Also needed the little piece of trim at the top which I purchased from the dealer for £5.

Well earlier this evening I grabbed the bull by the horns and reserved the Sony stereo same as you. About an hour ago I decided to try and install.

You weren't lying when you said its easy/straightforward. Easiest stereo I've ever done. Highly recommend this stereo, it awesome with a lot of techie stuff.

Also ordered the little trim piece to fit that gap.
