2.0 tsi lumpy idle

Featured Replies

Hi. A few days ago my 59 plate 2.0 tsi started idling lumpy and to the point it shakes the car when sat still. Some the idle will rise to about 1200 rpm and slowly drop back down. Can also sometimes feel as if it's misfiring when lightly accelerating.

Scanned it my fault scanner and it keeps coming up saying system too lean and one time I've had the engine management light flash and then it came up with cylinder 4 misfire when scanned.

Read a few things online that point to the pdv and mentioned pulling the dipstick at idle so gave that a try and when I pull the dipstick it instantly starts to sputter and revs drop like it's going to stall. Does this indicate a pcv issue?? Is there anything else I can try??

Bump

Oddly I noticed this with mine today, also a 2.0 TSI.

Quite a rough, shaky idle and seems to rev higher. I'd like to know too!

I had similar mine is 1.6tdi jumping from 900 to 1200 and up and down few times , I had it after refueling and having DPF thought that might be it so started using shell nitro+ and it got better for a wile . It was coming back every month or so just not sitting in revs correctly  , so now decided on checking if I got some water in my fuel , today add a "dry fuel" lets hope this will solve the problem .

Mine's been doing similar lately. Have a look at the flap valve actuator to the right of the inlet manifold,; see if it's moving freely and that it's not jammed open.

I had a similar problem on 1.6fsi .I tried to get to the bottom of it and never could diagnose whats wrong. When it drives it is fine and is still going on well with this misfire like behaviour on idle. I took it to a reputed engine tunning centre and was advised that ' it is a fsi and they have seen similar complains when on idle but drives okay'.
