Octavia Scout stalling

Featured Replies

Only had the vehicle for a month or so but am getting several engine stalls. Can occur when slowing for an intersection at rolling speeds of around 15 mph. Been driving for 60 years and not encountered the issue. My daughter has a Passat estate and has commented that that is prone to stalling.

When the car stalls are you in neutral or still in gear?

Manual or DSG (automatic) gearbox?

Foot on or off the clutch?

Stop/start active or turned off?

Have you noticed any trends i.e. does it happen with a cold or up-to temperature engine, or both?

How old is the Scout and how many miles has it done? Did you buy from a franchised Skoda main dealer, non-approved dealer or private?

When I first got my manual Scout I stalled it a number of times.  In the end I put this down to being in normal mode and it requiring a considerable amount of throttle (probably more than I was expecting) .... typically at a roundabout, 15mph and trying to pull away slowly in 2nd.  Mine has Kessy and first time it happened it was a bit of a brown trouser moment as it automatically restarted as I wS trying to start, so I ended up turning it off

I changed it to sport as it requires less throttle input and it doesn't happen at all now.

61 plate with 80,000 miles. Manual gearbox. Most unusual is stalling whilst braking for a junction at between 15 & 20 mph. Doesn’t have stop/start as far as I know. No problems starting from stationary.

For it to stall at 15/20mph (presumably clutch in, or in neutral) that suggests (to me) that it's having a bit of difficulty returning to idle, so while it could be many things, i'd be checking the Idle Contro Valve, PCV (presuming it has both) or if it's sucking air at breather hoses.  Probably best to have it scanned for fault codes though in case something obvious comes up - wouldn't want you going off on a wild goose chase.
