Tiny 3A fuse (?) in glovebox light?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Pretty sure I managed to blow the tiny fuse (?) that’s in the glovebox light. Does anyone know what they’re called and if somewhere like Halfords would sell them?

symptoms: tiny puff of smoke and now bulb isnt working.

Little black and grey thing on the right of the attached:

That's a resistor I think...

Will need soldered replacement

That's a diode. There might be a number on it to help find a replacement.

That's a diode, probably 1N4007, you can buy it cheap.

Looks like your LED bulb is shorting out the contacts? I can see a metal ring on it.

Thanks, will have another look and see if there are any other markings. Only one I saw was a big “3”.

Unplug the lead from the housing, get a normal bulb & plug it in, then re-plug the lead back to the housing & see if that works?

It does a bit but the silver ring is behind the lense. Not easy to see from the potato pic.

So it turns out I’m a ****** idiot. I’d actually managed to put the bulb in the wrong way round. Removal, 90 degree rotation and reinsertion was all it took to get output. In my defense I was rushing to get it all done before we went out for lunch.

I now have nice Osram LEDs in all the interior lights. IMHO how it should have left the factory.

Thanks for the input anyway all.
