Tilting Mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2016 Superb Executive spec and i was wondering if my side mirror should tilt when i select reverse gear? If the answer is yes do i need to set this up or should it happen automatically?

Many thanks in advance

Tony

If you do have this facility then it is the passenger mirror that tilts when reverse is selected.

Be aware it only works if the mirror is set to L.

Yes, you have to set it up (the instructions are in the manual) and it also needs to be set up again every time you reset the memory button for the driver's seat. After that it tilts automatically when you select reverse but, as has been pointed out, the mirror selector needs to be pointing to the L mirror.

Sorry yes I forgot to add that bit. It's car / settings / mirrors and wipers. Then tick the "lower while reversing" box.

You have to have the electrically adjusting drivers seat. If you have that then the relevant instructions are in the manual. The operation of it after programming is to make sure the mirror knob is set as L (for UK spec cars). When you select reverse gear the mirror will dip to your preset setting. If you have different drivers, each with a separate key, then they also will need so set their respective mirror/seat/key program.

Memory seats are not necessary for this function on MQB cars. My 2016 Golf with manual seats has dipping passenger mirror from the factory.

Just thought it was worth highlighting this bit of Terry's post above as it has caught a number of people out (yours truly included) previously.

Note
Every time you save new seat and exterior mirror settings for driving forwards,
you must also save the front passenger mirror setting for reversing again.

Given I spend the first six months of ownership of any new Superb getting the seat position just how I like it, I have "lost" the dip on numerous occasions by forgetting to re-do it when I save the latest seat setting.

It might be the case for Golfs but is required according to the Superb III manual. Can somebody with a Superb III with manual seats confirm if this is the case?

It can be coded no matter what.

My passenger door mirror dips on selecting reverse as long as the mirror operation switch is in the 'L' position but does not return to normal driving position when reverse is unselected.

I need to turn the mirror operation switch away from the 'L' position - is this normal?

Thanks

Just read Terry McK post more fully and see that the car needs to be travelling at a speed greater than 15km/hr for the mirror to go back to normal position.  Too clever by half lol :D

I have to do what Wheelnut mentions if I'm pulling out of a parallel parking space on the right hand side of the road (ie facing oncoming traffic) where I need to reverse prior to exiting.  With the mirror in the dipped position, I can't see traffic approaching from behind.  There's a one way street in Brecon where parking is on the right hand side which is where I find this is a problem.
