Alternator

Featured Replies

Evening all my alternator started making an almighty racket on way home and battery light started flashing . Then it suddenly went quiet again . So I’m guessung it’s time to change . My question is will an alternator of another car fit ? Ie is all the pd130 alternators the same .

Usually just the freewheeling pulley, AFAIK. Someone else with a car so-equipped,  who has experienced that failure will be along to advise soon hopefully.

See if the aux. belt/tensioner is bouncing around, this can be a sign that the pulley has failed and has 'locked up'

I wouldn't of thought it would have caused the battery light to come on though so it could always be the alternator itself. taking the whole lot off and having a proper look is the only way you will know for sure.  Brushes or the comm may be heavily worn and causing issues or the bearings could be dry/shot
