where to fix phone holder and first impressions

Featured Replies

Hi guys

well finally traded my ancient 135 Felicia for a slightly less ancient 1.2HTP fabia (63 bhp).  you can certainly tell difference with the more modern engine  . much more nippy. car has genuine 45K on clock, one owner, full service history blah blah  so worth hte risk for what is another old car !

My main reason for posting is to ask if anyone else fixes phoneholders in their cars. I use something like picture below and with felicia drilled one of the spare instrument swit panel and  bolted it behind. wondered if anyone else has done same with fabia and if so where. Universal Car Spider Desktop Stand Mount Holder for Phone iPhone 6 Plus + i H0Y0

Here's how I did it in my car. Think, perfect place.

It's cheap holder, basically mentioned for fixing to windscreen, with "rubber sucker" :-)

But my phone is heavy and holder fell of the glass + it covered view to road + it was hard to reach phone.

So I screwed it in upper box (above radio).

Anyway, pls, avoid cheap holders, mentioned for fixing in air vents- you'll ruin nozzle's flaps.

Ughhh how ugly is that! ive got a nice air vent holder which clips into the centre vent then clamps phone in place. Also got a magnetic version where you fit a magnet to the back of your phone and it just snaps onto the mount.

Much sleeker and holds the weight of my iphone 7 no problem no matter how i drive.

You just ruined my day- why, pls, why?..

Or am I lucky and ugly one is 1st one, spyder-type?

Ok, serious- nothing against air vent holder, if it doesn't ruin flaps / disrupt air flow from central vents.

But for normal cars with A/C, flow through central vents maybe isn't important, agree.

it just looks horrible, especially now you've screwed it into the plastic cubby hole.

Ive never had any issues with it obstructing the air vent. theres 3 other vents clear anyway plus all the other vents which is plenty to allow cool/warm air to come through.

I guess its down to personal opinion but i wouldn't want that great monstrosity sticking out from my dashboard!

No offence

pricey, but I used a brodit proclip over one of the vents with a move clip (allows you to slot in different holders).

I have my own cradle for my phone and my family all have proclips in their cars for their phones.

For the fabia - I fixed mine over the far air vent (so easy access to the hazard switch and less temptation to touch the phone whilst driving).

The clip stays there and the holder gets removed or left depending on whose car it is.

Indars, what are the buttons you have mounted there too?

I quite like your phone holder solution

Thks! Not nice indeed- but damn practical, cheap, bulletproof and handy.

BTW, 1st photo is almost macro- by fact, those screws etc are almost invisible in daily use and are hiding in darkness :-) of box.

Button is for subwoofer volume ctrl (was included in sub's scope)- have had active sub (removable) time ago :-/ it's about time to dismantle button and wire harness to trunk...or maybe no...

And my old Pioneer HU doesn't have built-in sub volume ctrl.

thanks guys for your comments. I do like indars solution, although on my car it has the cubby hole underneath the radio cassette unit. still do able though,

lets face it these are elderly cars now so I am not fussed  about a bit of drilling. Most concerned with a stable safe mount where i can put phone and leave it

This is mine. Works great and cost £1 from wish
