Hi! First post in the group. I'd offer beers all round but I'm a skint student with a stroppy car so the drinks will have to wait.

My car is a 2005 VRS which, until last week, had been the reliability poster child. Only routine servicing and replacement of cunsumables needed.

it could never last. On Thursday last week my other half returned from a shopping trip to tell me that neither electric window was working. To add to the weirdness the interior fan, door mirrors and rear wiper have also joined in the strike action. There may be other failures that I have yet to notice.

It seems odd that all these items could fail at the same time. I've checked fuses, done a disconnect/reconnect of the battery and tried praying to a range of gods, all with no success. So now I'm thinking it may be the convenience module. Does this sound plausible? If so I can easily fit a new part myself but won't have access to any specialist electrical gadgets for re-coding etc.

Any advice gratefully received!

Sounds a bit of an odd one, it makes me wonder if a muliplug has worked loose somewhere. I'd be thinking give it a scan with VCDS to at least get a full list of what's not functioning. If you post whereabouts you are, there's a chance someone nearby will have the kit.

See if it has affected your foglights too. If so I'd be fairly confident it's a problem with the X-relief relay.

Thank you guys! I'll be checking the fogs later this morning. Hopefully it's just the relay and I can swap it myself.

I'll report back later!

I'd be inclined to think it's a poor connection on either a multiplug, relay / base or even on the convience module ( think that's on the drivers door window motor ( ?? ) in which case may be water Ingres issues ? )

try the obvious by checking all visual connectors amid relays into bases if no joy as suggested may need VCDS diagnosis !!

l also think it's the  X-relief relay. Its job is to cut off various circuits to prevent excessive current drain and to ensure the starter gets maximum power during engine cranking. If the relay is sticking it would cause the symptoms he's having.

Bingo! It was the X relief relay. Eleven quid from GSF and everything works again.

Just the small pleasure of rebuilding the lower dash now. Oh joy!

Nice one
