Apple CarPlay phone poor quality

Featured Replies

I have just started having poor quality when using calls over car play if I unplug the wire and use Bluetooth the quality is much better.

Has anyone else experience this any ideas?

Have you tried another cable?  I have had to swap mine a few times.

Yes the same for me with ios 11.3

Buy a good quality lightning cable, made a big difference for me.

I recently bought a unbreakable one and it still does didn’t work have you got the official apple cable

Try a proper Apple one. They are the only cables I find work with CarPlay.

friends, the cable is original apple. This bug was introduced in ios 11.3

I recently upgraded my SE from IOS10 to IOS11.3 - and have had a few problems.

Half the time the phone will keep connecting and then disconnecting over and over again. I have managed to cure this a couple of times by doing a reset of the Amundsen (Pressing the on/off button until it reboots).

Another funny thing happened when I plugged the phone into the car - it wouldn't stay connected but started playing music from the music app on the phone's speaker. I hadn't been using the music app previously. Very random.

I have since reset the phone (pressing the power button and home button down until Apple logo appears) and so far... it seems to be working OK.

I am using a genuine Apple cable.

I have also noticed that the traffic info on Apple maps stops working every now and again. When you look at the settings in the map app, the traffic switch is on. To get traffic working again, I have to turn if off, got back to the maps, go back to the settings and turn it on. After that the traffic works again until some random amount of time (hours or days) when it stops again. I now always check it is working before plugging the phone into the car - CarPlay will not allow you to change the settings.

It is about time companies like Apple get their software working properly if it is going to be used in cars.

If it makes you all feel better, ours has just started playing up. The sound is poor to the point it is nearly unusable. The caller sounds as though they have their head in a bucket, and this applies at both ends of the call. The phones used are iPhone SE, 7+ and Nokia 6 (Android) and all suffer the same issue. I've tried to solve the issue by making the Nokia and the car forget each other then reconnect on Bluetooth but no change. Calls were clear as a bell only a few days ago, so not sure if something has come loose.

Has their been a software update by Skoda of late?

Did any of you manage to find a fix for this? I bought my 2020 vRS about a week ago, and after a few hundred miles it started doing this yesterday...

I've reset the infotaintment system, reset phone, unpaired, etc.

Good to see VAG is still on the ball, even six years later.

This should not happen, the sound should go through Bluetooth and not the usb. At least that is how android auto works.

Can you press (and hold) MENU button and go into the software version and post it here.  If you are in a 2020 car, I would expect an SOP4.x version of about 0480 for an Amunsden system.  Anything earlier will glitch for Apple Carplay.

@varaderoguy sorry for the late response! I’m having a hard time attaching the file here, so will have to just transcribe it -

Installed SW Train Version - MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0478T

Installed SW MU Version -

0478

Part Number -

565035874

Software Version -

H29.319.93_STD2Nav EU

Do you think I’m running an older version (478? Not 480), and that this might be causing the issues? Car is going back to the dealer in a weeks time for some paint on the caliper, so can raise it then.

@varaderoguy only interesting thing is, on the updates section -

Current version: MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0478T (0478)

Update: MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0478T (0478-2)

You need version 0480 which is the current latest version. It did improve performance for Carplay and also Android Auto.

Job for the dealer?

Not necessarily. If you can get hold of the firmware file and have a reasonable IT background, then you can do it yourself.
