I am getting a VRS this week and want to know if it's possible to swap the open storage cubby hole under the symphony radio for the sliding tray box? (from my 1.9tdi Elegance)

I think so, I can check for you since I have both cars right outside the house, one with drawer, one with open storage.

Yep had one in mine infact I’m after one for a fabia I have just bought but they are mega money

Yes you definitely can as I replaced mine with one. 

It creates a slight vibration though when driving which is a bit irritating so I’ve some non slip mat that catches it to stop it and also protects my sunglasses from scratching.

Is it quite easy to do?, don't want to break anything poking around!

It’s pretty straightforward although I had trouble removing my original tray, it was just really stubborn for no reason but the drawer slid in no problems. I ended up half removing the radio (original one fitted). 

 

I used some plastic trim removal tools to not damage anything.
