Powerfold Mirror's

Featured Replies

My 2014 vrs doesn't have these fitted, how difficult are they to retrofit? And what's needed apart from the mirrors and coding. Tia

Probably harder and more expensive than you realise. Supplied and fitted for VW circa £800 probably half that for parts and DIY fit
( unless you find a breaker and lucky enough to get same colour too).

Note when someone comes tearing past and breaks them then you are footed with a much bigger parts replacement cost or insurance !!
( Try and gamble the inevitable and the numpties wiill probably just find something else to break, like the side of your car ).

Might be worth waiting this one out and waiting for breakers units prices to come down, I wouldn't bother IMO I am happy without them, its equiavlent to self lifting tail gate etc, to me seems to be for showing off in the car parks and I think its just a sales feature tbh.
I'd take canton and satnav over that tbh, but if you manage to get a car specced already with that then fair play

I keep idly looking at this. My old Volvo had them and my Mercedes has them and they are handy when the car lives on a street and buses slide past, inches away, every day. Without a concrete answer, I’m not paying for motorised mirrors from a breaker car. If I see an Elegance spec car being broken up I may message about the mirrors and switch and if the price is decent, I might go for it one day.

That was exactly my perspective.

They have that "coo" factor look I have a modern car look it does tricks ( not sure about roll over and play beg though)

but in terms of important in regard to "turning the key and going" they aren't really the most important thing, are they ?

( although manual switch to turn them in may be useful for narrow spaces ).

Adaptive cruise control is probably even more useful but thats even more hard and currently black art with enabling.

Of course if the features are that important buy another car or 2nd hand may be the more immediate answer ?
In time the options for this 2nd hand as you said Sasha may become a bit more common place with guides knocked up, that tends to be the case as cars are less brand new, the vRS has been aroudn since 13-14 so should stack up that used parts availability and knowledge should become more common place.

There is a breakers on ebay that look like they have stripped a 2016 vrs  230. They want £170 each for the powerfold mirrors.

Yeeeeeeaahhhh, not at that price.

Powerfold door mirrors were one of the reasons I dismissed the BMW 3 series - you really have to order a brand new car if you want them.

I said to the BMW sales guy  that his demo car seemed a tad basic for £25, citing a lack of power mirros as an example. He then slapped the driver's mirror and it closed shut - "it's as easy as that" he said in smug tone, to which I replied "...and the other side?".

Annoyed the hell out of me the number of times over the years my mirrors have been damaged by shopping carts in supermarket car parks. Annoyed the hell out of me when I used to come back to my Honda and see the glass smashed by passing cyclists. Even more anooying that Honda would only sell you a full new mirror rather than just replace the housing. But most important of all, annoyed the hell out of me when I drive my car into our garage - as each car has grown in size it means I had to manually fold both mirrors to easily get the car in/out.   Power mirrors? I don't have to worry about any of the above.

Power mirrors are for showing off or a sales gimmick?  If a car wasn't equipped with power mirrors, I'd never buy it.

Retro-fit?  Probably cheaper and much easier changing the car.

Cancelled my 1st VRS order as MY changes made them an option the week I got BW Locked, they are a great visual aid that the car is locked & if you don't look back at your car when you are walking away from it.

YOU BROUGHT THE WRONG CAR

Additionally, besides the fact that you can squeeze through gaps , nobody has mentioned that the folding door mirrors also have the anti-dazzle film like the interior mirror. I really like the fact that in the winter you can't be blinded by HID or the many  incorrectly set headlights.

The interior automatic anti dazzle is a bit ****. I'd take foldable up " 2 direction" mirrors over them as they are not as effective.

For many, perhaps most is what I meant in regard to being a bit gimmicky, of course there will always be someone who gets the proper use out of the feature rather than a game of "tick the most boxes" look at me any my spec kind of thing.

Obviously more specific cases like yours are becoming less common as not so many people garage their cars anymore - as they seem to use them for filling full of junk lol

but for your more exacting requirements, in your case I completely agree it would be high on your agenda, as it would be mine in similar situation.

By the way don't ever get annoyed by Mr Honda trying to take advantage, as there are places online that sell perfect fitting glass for standard mirrors for almost all models !

I've used them before on Fabia 1 for wifes car - and they were perfect, got a card for the ones I used somewhere.

I'm sure it works out far, far cheaper than full basic mirrors from a dealer OR folding mirrors ( if they are smashed whilst driving they would cost a fortune to replace by sounds of it).

I’ve done the powerfold mirror retrofit on my A3 it’s pretty easy to do. I think I paid £150 per side and sold the old ones for about £70. Only thing about the octy ones is they don’t really fold all the way in... They are standard on our octy elegance.
