Looking for a cheap Filter for my octavia mk2. 

 

Have found 4 different ones, all of which seem to be much of a muchness. 

 

Whilst these are all cheap (under £12) some dare to stray as lows as £8 with next day delivery!! 

 

So in an attempt to potentially save myself £4 (halfway to the next air filter already!) I thought I'd put the question to you guys:

 

Of the cheap Filter suppliers is there any advantage to one make over the overs? Or is it just buy whichever one happens to be cheaper on the day? 

 

The makes of the 4 are as follows:

 

Mann

Bosch

Febi Bilstein

Comline

 

Any response would be greatly appreciated,

never heard of comline  but you won't go far wrong with the others (as long as they are genuine)    and not "Chinesium"

Thought as much, 

 

Guess another advantage would be, if I bought the Febi Bilstein one, I'd be able to slap a Bilstein sticker on my window and gain 10hp...

 

On a serious note though, these were all on amazon (because I'm impatient and want to get my monies worth from my prime membership)... I guess there is no way to guarantee that this will be a genuine part but all the reviews seem to be positive. 

 

Might take the risk and go for the cheapest option (Bosch £6.80) from a seller in Italy...

I've been using Mann filters for a while, they've always been of good quality and reasonably priced.

As long as it's not the crap 'racing' or performance ones, some are rather oily and get gunk in your system. OEM  or a OEM similar mansfacturer is always best 

As an update, I decided on the (slightly more expensive) Mann filter. Very happy with it, but to be honest anything would have been an improvement on the filter I had in there... Not entirely convinced it was done (as the dealer said it had been) when I bought it.

 

Just out of interest, does anyone know what the differences between the filters are? Only things I can think of are: thickness of the filter medium, the fold pattern and the adhesive that holds it together! Can any of this really make that much difference?

Generally the cheaper filters have less material in them, so if you count the number of pleats you will find more in a quality air filter than a crappy one. Obviously that's not all it takes to be a good air filter but its the easiest thing to quantify by just looking at them

FWIW, I bought my Octy with 73k miles on the clock, and fitted a washable foam filter (Pipercross IIRC) soon after for about £30 or so (in 2013). NEVER had an issue with filtration, and that was what was in when it was remapped to around about 185 bhp on suprmarket diesel in late 2014. Couple of weeks ago I thought I really ought to clean the filter at 125k miles - quick soak with washing-up liquid (Fairy Liquid! :) ),  then a few rinses and a couple of hours outside in the Sun to dry - all good again for the next 50k miles, and so equaled about 30p/1k miles AND COUNTING DOWN FROM THERE

 

PS: No apparent bore wear problems - currently doing about 6-7k miles per year between oil changes since retirement,  and it uses about 1/2 litre between changes (and I don't tread lightly on the fast peddle  when the opportunity arises ).

I think that it is Mann that make the air filters for VW group cars. I'm sure I read that before buying one for my Scirocco

The air filter hpusimg has Mann filter on mine. Pollen one Valeo and fuel ufi...

 

mann air will be just fine
