So I have a Fabia 1.4 16v DSG...

A remap is not possible on that ECU, you'd need a piggyback unit, might get you another 5 BHP.

I have the 2.0 with the 5-speed manual but it was available with auto as a cost option I believe, I don't know if there any out there in the wild though, it's existence is theoretical rather than actual. It might be a Unicorn.

Just pass manual, if you aspire to ever enjoy your driving you're going to need it.

and beware of hubris Spursboy, if Arsenal can beat Athletico it would foolhardy to bet against them going all the way...

@Spursboy - Accepting that you may need an interceptor unit rather than a remap of the standard ECU, the most people normally see from just software on a non-turbo engine is 10bhp or 10%, whichever is less, so in your case ~7.5bhp. The much bigger gains that you see being quoted for turbos are basically from increasing peak boost, and then exploiting that by turning up the fuelling.

Bottom line - Unless there is some physical disability that prevents you driving a manual, you'd be best served by using budget to get a manual licence.
