I didn't know the Yeti didn't do this!

Featured Replies

Took delivery of my nearly-new SE L Outdoor 4x4 DSG yesterday.  Had a couple of 'plays' in it later in the day and noticed a couple of things:

1) The 'dancing headlights' don't dance any more when you start the car   Nor do they so obviously swivel with the steering above a certain speed - though a brief drive along an unlit road suggests that the AFS bi-xenons as a package are much better overall than the old pre-FL xenons.

2) On a similar subject: I noticed that you can't turn off the cornering fogs through the Maxidot any more.  Not that I ever did, but I noticed it gone.

3) No more sonorous 'bong!' when the phone connects!

4) The voice button doesn't do anything.  Not that the voice function on the old Yeti worked very well anyway.  (I'm pondering paying to get the SmartLInk activated, if I can find a dealer nearby who knows how to do it.)

5) Someone forgot to fit the clutch pedal!  (I only reached down to change gear about six times in an hour or so's driving...)

The Cinturatos it came with are very nice'n'all, but the ride did feel a bit jiggly compared to my old car on my snow-chain compatible Vector 4seasons on 16" steelies.  My original plan was to keep the OEM wheels & tyres on until October, then swap the 4seasons on for the winter and run them all year round after that.  I may be tempted to swap sooner...

Other than all of that: it's a Yeti.  Like my old one, only newer.  Which, coincidentally, is exactly what I wanted.  How weird is that?

Did you have the lights selected to ‘auto’.

Not sure if it makes a difference on start up but the lights are effectively locked in place if selected ‘on’ rather than ‘auto’.

I’ve never checked to see if the lights do their exercise routine when the lights are ‘off’ - certainly they do it when on ‘auto’.

I agree that the AFS bi-xenon are nothing short of superb.

They don't jiggle if you have travel mode selected and you would see the lamp fault warning flash when turning ign on.

Ah, the 17" v 16" debate! No doubt 16" wheels provide a more cushioned ride particularly on Britain's potholed roads. I hear that 16" wheels with Michelin Crossclimates are particularly sweet.

The checkbox to turn off the DRLs is still present on the Maxidot.  The DRLs on the FL Yeti are not the same as the fog lights (they weren't on the pre-FL either, in fact).  According this Wiki article, it is against EU directive 2008/89/EC to use fog lights as DRLs.  Note that the article says that the regulation requires vehicles to be equipped with DRLs, not that they have to be permanently on.  (Although that could be down to an inadequate explanation of the regulation; or a new regulation might have come out since.)

And I was referring to the cornering fog lights, which are not a legal requirement (in fact AFAIK fog lights of any kind are not a legal requirement).

And I spotted him over on seatcupra.net.

Definitely didn't have travel mode selected.  I'd checked and synced the Maxidot settings on both keys only a couple of hours before.

I might have had the lights 'on' rather than 'auto'.  I can't remember for sure, and I haven't been out in the dark since then (!) so haven't had a chance to check what they do if definitely on auto.

I believe that, even when 'on', they have to auto-level so I'd have thought they would self-test that function.  But maybe they don't self-test the side-to-side movement unless they're on 'auto'.

I did think that I heard a servo-like noise coming from the front end of the car when I turned on the ignition but before the lights came on (which perhaps suggests that they weren't on 'auto', in fact).  Could that have been the Xenons self-testing?  When we got out this afternoon I might ask the missus to turn on the ignition while I stare at the lights, just to see if that's what they do.  (Definitely a job best done in daylight, though!)

Having been out in the Yeti this evening, I am happy to report that the headlights do still the startup self-test dance when you start the engine (at least when the light switch is on 'auto').  So that's put that one to bed, then.

Best just leave them on auto no real reason to change away

Driving in fog yesterday with lights on 'Auto' they stayed on DRL's. The headlamps didn't come on as although it was foggy it was 'bright fog' and didn't trigger headlamps. I manually selected fog lamps. In fairness I didn't expect them to hence why I was checking the status of the light switch.

I've also (thanks to guidance from a poster on 'the other Yeti forum') verified that stop-start keeps the engine stopped without you having to keep your foot on the brake if you put the car in Park.  Not really necessary if you know the light sequence is going to let you go quite soon, but handy if you know the lights have a long cycle time and you just miss the green.  (If, that is, you hate siting there with the brake lights on - like I do.)
